VW Polo R WRC street concept 17.05.2012

At the 31st GTI Meeting at Wörthersee, Austria, Volkswagen debuted the Polo WRC Street concept car and Polo R WRC road-going prototype.

The Polo WRC Street concept previews a small series production vehicle which is due to be launched in late 2013. It features a rear spoiler, diffuser, sports suspension and WRC logos. Power is provided by a 2.0-liter TSI producing 220 HP (162 kW / 217 bhp). More details will be released at a later date.

Also revealed at the week long festival for Volkswagen enthusiasts is the newly developed Polo R WRC which Volkswagen Motorsport is presenting as a road-going prototype for the FIA World Rally Championship. Dubbed by Volkswagen Head of Development Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg as the "hottest Polo ever," it features a racing version of the 1.6-liter TSI engine with approximately 300 HP (220 kW / 296 bhp). The tarmac prepared racer will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.

I would have liked a Beetle WRC instead, i think it's more representative for the VW brand than the Polo.

Not really, you want a car to stir the masses, but you want it to look like the car that the masses buy, that is the polo these days.

You've got to admire Volkswagen for being able to produce some of the most efficient cars whilst still maintaining their sporty image. If the reports are true, this car should be pretty incredible.

Well to be fair, this isn't an ordinary car. As a whole I don't think VW's prices are ridiculous, you pay for what you get.

The fact VW is not cheaper than the rest doesn't mean it way more expensive and I agree to henaz, you get for what you pay. Beside some VWs have good value of money, Polo 1.2 TSI and Golf 1.4 TSI are example of it, decend performance and saving your fuel bill without way more expensive than Fiesta and Focus counterpart.
