Buick trademarks the Riviera name, new model in the works?
Buick Riviera Concept

More questions than answers

The Buick Riviera went out of production almost 13 years ago, but General Motors has just filed a trademark to use the legendary name on future automobiles.

While this has fueled speculation that the brand could offer a coupe like the 2007 Rivera concept, Buick spokesman Nick Richards told the Detroit News "I wouldn't read too much into this" because GM is "constantly protecting various names."

Whether Richards' remarks are genuine or an attempt to hide an upcoming model, a sporty coupe could go a long way in helping the brand to ditch its old person image.

Great looking concept. A shame Buick's Concept to Production conversion is so low.

Even if they produce this concept, they should not name it Riviera. Riviera is kind of a romantic name for a futuristic looking car.

Buick introduces some of the most attractive concepts in the industry. Yet, none of their concept cars has ever made it to production!

I dont understand why the current Zeta platform hasnt already spawned an Eldorado and Riviera. Any premium ride deficiencies could be masked by MRC. Smack some stitched leather on everything, start at $40K and call it a day.
