 2014 Chevrolet SS to have a 6.2-liter V8 - report
Chevrolet Caprice SS 08.5.2012

Could go into production next fall

The Chevrolet SS Performance Sedan is quickly becoming Detroit's worst keep secret as new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming model.

According to GM Inside News, the car will be unveiled early next year and could go into production in the fall of 2013. It will likely be based on the Holden Commodore SS-V and be imported in limited quantities.

Power will reportedly be provided by a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine. If the Camaro SS is any indication, it could have an output of approximately 426 hp (318 kW / 432 PS) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.

I dont understand how this could be exciting new-fresh news. We had a Chev Lumina SS and SS UTE with the same engine and (and looks) for plus minus 5 to 10 years in South Africa. How is this a secret and something new?

It's new for people in the U.S (or, at least, those people who will actually GO OUT WITH THEIR WALLETS THIS TIME AND BUY IT). Not trying to be insulting, just telling you what's going on.

problem though is the value of the AUD vs USD means that it will only be done as a limited import unless they move manufacturing to the US. Also there are rumours running around in the press here that the Ute and Sportswagon will also be heading stateside.

Worst kept secret? It seems to me that all the rumors around the SS is very good and free advertising for Chevy.

OK I've seen the Holden Caprice when i was in Aussie a few years ago and not a whole lot has changed. I still find it looks ever so slightly like a Merc C Class at the front. Overall, it's a pretty nice vehicle, even if the interior could use a bit of sprucing up. And well the V8 is simply a gorgeous motor.

The only update they have for interior is only Holden-IQ system which is simply a regular touch screen command device. The leather is fine, plastic is okay, but the metalic insert is poor and it has identical atmosphere to lesser model Commodore and Calais, if only more spacious.

Yep, all true. I generally don't like mainstream vehicles, but I would absolutely sell my manly parts to get a hold of an HSV Malloo in the UK. Totally pointless machine, but my GOD I love em!

this is the existing car - the SS should be updated (it's based on the VF Commodore apparently)

It would have to be the redesigned next-gen Caprice. The current Gulf-spec model has been on sale without change since MY 2007. More info at Chevrolet Arabia site: http://sa-en.chevroletarabia.com/vehicles/view_all_vehicles/cars/caprice_family/index.html
