2013 Toyota RAV4 EV teased, debuts May 7th
Will be unveiled in L.A.
Toyota has announced plans to introduce the 2013 RAV4 EV at the 26th International Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS26) on May 7th.
While the company declined to give additional information, they previewed a pre-production prototype almost two years ago. It was jointly developed with Tesla Motors - as part of a $50 million dollar agreement to collaborate on EV technology - and featured a lithium metal oxide battery as well as a Tesla-sourced electric motor. Detailed specifications weren't released, but Toyota said the prototype only weighed 220 pounds (100 kg) more than the RAV4 V6 and could travel up to 100 miles (161 km) on a single charge.
