2013 Audi RS6 spied in motion [video]

Before the end of this year we expect to see the official photos of the new Audi RS6 Avant, but until then we have to make do with the various sightings of pre-production prototypes. The latest of these has been caught by our spy photographer, but this time we are able to bring you a video that showcases the model in motion.

The latest RS model will be released in the Avant (estate/wagon) body style, but there are no confirmations that it will be joined by a sedan. Rivals will include the new BMW (F10) M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG which help serve as a performance benchmark.

While the M5 comes with 560 PS (412 kW / 552 hp), we expect Audi to bang out a few extra ponies with a final output figure of around 580 PS (427 kW / 572 bhp) from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

European dealerships will be treated to the first examples of the new Audi RS6 Avant by the end of the year, but U.S. customers will have to wait until next year.

The problem with Audi's RS6 (especially the last one) is that while very good looking and blessed with a nuclear bomb under the bonnet, it is WAY too heavy to be of any real use. I mean it weighs nearly as much as a Range Rover. Of course the Quattro system means its got superior traction in the wet compared to an M5, but the one crucial thing Audi engineers keep neglecting is balance, poise and delicacy. The M5, while less powerful and 2 less driven wheels, will dance pirouettes around the RS6. Even AMG is getting the picture and producing some amazingly well balanced machines. Audi needs to engineer some form of decent handling prowess into their cars. What would be great would be to see them produce that Quattro concept and kind of go back to the days of the RS2 and have Porsche mess around with it a bit. To think, a modern day equivalent to the iconic rally car, using Audi's engines and build quality, combined with Porsche's chassis knowhow. But back to the topic at hand, while still interested to see the new RS6, I'd much rather have an M5 or E63 AMG over it.

Comparing M5 to RS range and AMG is like comparing Nissan Micra with A class or A1. I don't care if RS6 will be slower on track, in real life it is safer and faster. And nothing will beat the looks of RS6. NOTHING!

Shouldn't there be a S6 before they bring out the RS6? It's almost summer and you are not able to buy a S6 or S7 or S8 in Germany. They are not even in the configurator. Even if they were announced almost one year ago.

It will be faster than M5 ;) But, on the straight line speed. I think a new M5 is faster on tracks, but, then a new RS6 sedan will come, its going to beat M5 every categorys ;)

I wonder if they will go with the combo the used on the RS5 and 4 by making the RS6 Avant only and anyone who wants a sedan will have to go for the RS7. I'd go for the 7.

The M5 already bags out more ponies than 552hp....unofficially. The RS6 should be a real weapon.
