BMW F10 M5 returns as Ring-Taxi, 720, 18.04.2012

When production of the previous generation BMW M5 (E60) ended, so did Ring-Taxi duty around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. It was then replaced by the BMW M3 (E90) sedan less than a year ago.

Now BMW M has announced the new generation M5 (F10) is reporting for duty and ready to give paying passengers (up to three) the ride of their lives around the famous "Green Hell."

For those who don't know, the Ring-Taxi is literally a taxi ride, but what makes this one so special is that you don't tell the driver where to go! He tells you to buckle up and enjoy the adrenalin rush you're about to receive. The taxi driver, who is a well-versed BMW Driving Experience Instructor, takes you on a "spirited" drive in his 560 bhp BMW M5 taxi around the world's most demanding race circuit, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The Ring-Taxi is operated by BMW in conjunction with OK-Speed-Marketing and reservations can be made online at a rate of EUR 216.- incl. VAT at http://www3.bmw-motorsport.com/ms_en/fascination/bmw_ring_taxi/tickets_and_dates

One important piece of advice: the trips are very much in demand. A ticket allocation is released for booking every Monday at 10 am CET. You have to be quick - experience shows that it only takes a few minutes for all the tickets to be gone until the following Monday.

lol, my wife insisted 2 go and get driven in the prevous m5 bmw was using, so she could see what it was capable of, so she could learn some extra driving skills. So, we loaded up in the thing and when it was finally over, I asked her "so, can you now feel more comfortable about driving like that?" Her face was priceless- I dont think she had realized we had stopped yet. this should be even more fun, what with all hat extra torque...

216 EUR for a ~10 minute ride, damn. Thats 648 EUR per ride, since its 3 people. Perhaps they can take 4 rides per hour.. that makes it 2592 EUR of income per hour. Run for 8 hours and thats 20736 EUR a day. Subtract the cost of the car and fee to the ring. Thats not a bad sum to make in a days work. Work 5 days a week, lets say 4 weeks per month. 414720 EUR per month. I think I'll go down and start my own ring taxi business..

There really isn't any other car better suited as the role of Ring Taxi. Sure, RS6 or E63 could do the job, but the M5 is superior to both in pretty much every way (cue the fanboy accusations, despite the fact that it has won every single comparison test it has participated in). No, not the Jag, or any Lexus. It must be German, and what better brand than The Ultimate Driving Machine (don't you just love that marketing?)? There is none. This is coming from an Audi driver, you fanboy accusing trolls.

If you are so demanding regarding the car to drive you around then that makes you a "petrolhead" but if you are a real petrolhead then you have your own car to drive around the ring and not require a taxi to do it. Still, this is crap news

Ok, but let's say you don't know you're way around the track and want to drive hard around it, then it makes sense to take the taxi. You see, if you're a true petrolhead, then you also want to make sure that you protect your car from a potential crash. And, if you are a true pretrolhead, you should want to experience a car driven to the limit if you don't have that car and/or are to afraid/not skilled enough to push it over the edge. You seem to have no conception of either of these things. And again, this is great news. This is not bad news. You are wrong.

Congratulations on very objective comment. I totally agree with all that you sad. Yes I am BMW fan, but I pretty much respect all other brands. GTR could also do the magic, but it would be coolest in Japan.
