Piech finally gets what he wants

Four years ago, we reported Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech wanted to buy a motorcycle company and he regretted not buying Ducati in 1985. Fast forward to today and Piech could be just hours away from getting everything he wants.

According to Reuters, Audi has reached an agreement to purchase Ducati from Investindustrial for $1.1 billion (€837,138,500 / £690,520,600). The deal hasn't been finalized, but Volkswagen's supervisory board will reportedly approve it sometime tomorrow.

If everything pans out, Ducati's future lineup could be expanded to compete with motorcycles made by BMW and Husqvarna.

Ok Ducati is a cool brand and does cool bikes but 1.1bilion spent in a bit of coolness is just too much, plus VAG as no experience how to build bikes anyways and if you add up the global economic crisis, its just ridiculous to spend 1.1b to be cool. Glad Mercedes didn´t go for it

$1 bil for a company that barely sells more than 40,000 bikes and is in hundreds of millions of debt. I hope this works out, but Ducati needs people who can balance accounts more than a sugar daddy alone.
