2014 Maserati Quattroporte spied testing around Nurburgring [video]

A prototype for the next generation Maserati Quattroporte made its first appearance on the Nurburgring just last week when it was undergoing some high-speed testing. Now we bring you the first video while it was taking it a little easier in the same area.

The new Quattroporte rides on a new lightweight platform that will knock a few pounds off the kerb weight. It has been designed for both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

Although the Quattroporte will primarily report for duty with a powerful V8 engine, a hybrid will also be available. The V8 in question will be a 4.7-liter unit that generates around 475 PS (354 kW / 469 bhp) and it will pass the power to the wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission system.

The new Maserati Quattroporte is known internally as the M156 and is due to be launched in 2013 following an anticipated debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
