The future of the 9-3 hangs in limbo as the bankruptcy of Saab proceeds, but a couple of motorsports teams are keeping the spirit alive with the Saab 9-3 TTA (Touring Car Team Association) race car.
First announced a few weeks ago, the 9-3 TTA is set to compete in the Swedish Racing Elite League, and here we have video of its first test. Conducted by the TTA at the Alés track in southern France, the 9-3 completed over 100 laps with Swiss test driver Fabrien Thuner behind the wheel.
"This Saab is the first complete TTA car with the final technical specification and carbon fibre body and it feels great to see it on track. We've had a successful and thorough test day in France, something soon to be changed to the final tests in Sweden ahead of the premiere," said Greger Landén, Technical Director of TTA.
Although there is still aerodynamic work to be completed, the car is basically in final specification. A total of four cars will be made (including the test car) and delivered to Flash Engineering and Team Tidö.
More official TTA testing will be carried out in Sweden followed by the first race at Karlskoga on the 12th of May.
