Fisker Automotive has announced a major world debut is set for the New York Auto Show next month and released a design sketch preview. Widely reported over the past three years, the debut vehicle is expected to be Fisker's second model dubbed Project Nina.

Confirmed as an entry-level sedan with an electric powertrain and BMW turbo 4-cylinder range-extender engine, the Nina - just like its Karma older brother - has had a long and tumultuous path to production. Just last month it was reported the U.S. Department of Energy blocked the company's access to a $529 (€403.5) million loan due to unmet milestones. This resulted in the company laying off 26 workers at the Wilmington, Delaware plant which was scheduled to build the Project Nina sedan later this year. Despite the potential delay in scheduled production, the announcement of this debut seems to be right on schedule.

Project Nina has been reported to target a price somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000 (before tax incentives).

I may be mistaken but aren't they having trouble getting the Karma off the ground?
