Just in case yesterday's artist renderings weren't real enough, here are the latest spy photos of the upcoming topless version of the new BMW 4-series.

Visible in these photos we can see the folding seams of the steel-roof convertible. Also noticeable for the first time, the 4-Series prototype has finished headlamp and tailamp units installed as opposed to the mockup units seen in previous prototypes.

Rumor has it the new 4-Series model range will be completed by a four-door Gran Coupe variant in the same vein as BMW has done with the 6-Series range to compete against the likes of the Audi A5 range.

Engines will include a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that boasts 240 bhp (179 kW / 243 PS) and a twin-turbo 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp).

Look for the 4-Series to be unveiled towards the end of this year, possibly at the Paris Motor Show in September.

odd numbered series follow BMW tradition, however even-numbered series astray from traditional design and go far beyond design restrictions; similar to X6 and 6 and the old 850
