 GM developing twin-turbo V6 engines - report
2013 Cadillac ATS 08.1.2012

Could be used on the ATS-V

General Motors is reportedly developing a new twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 engine.

Details are limited, but Chevrolet unveiled a Jay Leno Camaro concept with the aforementioned engine at the 2009 SEMA Motor Show. It used a pair of Turbonetics T-3 turbochargers to develop approximately 425 hp (317 kW / 431 PS). The production engine would likely be different, but still feature an output in excess of 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS).

Speculation suggests the engine could debut on the ATS-V, but nothing is official as of yet. There's also word that a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 could be offered on the XTS and next-generation CTS.

It's about freakin' time!!! Don't get me wrong. I TOTALLY love what GM has been doing lately, and what they have been putting out, but they have totally been lagging in the advanced engine technology department. I realize that they just narrowly avoided going out of business, but it's time to get with the program and become competitive and/or a leader in engine technology, if they truly want to compete globally. This type of engine and power is definitely needed for the new Cadillacs, and it will need to be reliable too.

It seems GM is catching up on their engines, but I still think they still use mostly 6 speed autos and many of their competitors have 8 0r more speeds.

Is GM coming out with just an electric version of the Volt, like the Leaf and the upcoming i cars from BMW?

Nissan was able to get massive power out of a 2.6L twin turbo so GM should be able to develop monsters.
