 BMW Concept M135i revealed
BMW Concept M135i

BMW will use the Geneva Motor Show next month to present the new Concept M135i. The design study is the latest addition from BMW's M Performance Automobile division and previews the production model that is due to be launched.

The Bavarian auto maker has confirmed it is powered by a straight six-cylinder engine featuring TwinPower Turbo technology and it generates at least 300 PS ( 220 kW / 296 hp) which is passed to the rear wheels. The displacement has not been confirmed at this point but it is easily believed to be 3.0-liters.

The Concept M135i boasts a three-door hatchback body-style and is treated to a set of 18-inch M light alloy wheels with a double spoke design. Hiding behind them is the large M sports braking system.

The exterior design requires the extra large air intakes to keep the powerful engine cool and they also add an element of aggression and character to the model. Designers have aimed for a more elongated and dynamic appearance in comparison to the regular production model with the body kit giving a low-riding aroma.

BMW will debut the BMW Concept M135i at a special preview evening on the day before the Geneva Motor Show starts.

BMW presents the concept study of a BMW M Performance automobile featuring a six-cylinder petrol engine – consistent further development of the new BMW 1 Series’ dynamic characteristics – world premiere at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show.

Munich. Simultaneously with the world premiere of the first BMW M Performance automobiles, BMW’s concept study of a further model from this new product category will be showcased on the media days (6 – 7 March 2012) at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show. The BMW Concept M135i consistently utilises the dynamic potential of the new BMW 1 Series for the concept of the first BMW M Performance automobile featuring a straight six-cylinder petrol engine. The body design of the BMW Concept M135i assigns the youthful and sporty looks of the new BMW 1 Series to a three-door compact model, complementing it with the distinctive athleticism so typical of a BMW M Performance automobile.

Concept study with characteristics typical of a BMW M Performance automobile.
With its sporty appearance, the compact three-door car authentically conveys the typical qualities of BMW Performance automobiles to yet another vehicle segment. BMW M Performance automobiles offer an ideal symbiosis of outstanding performance and everyday suitability. Using the expertise gained by the BMW M division from decades of motor racing experience, the supreme performance of its tremendously powerful engines specifically designed to suit each model, the meticulously modified suspension technology and the aerodynamic characteristics are all combined into a harmonious overall concept. As a result, BMW M Performance automobiles have noticeably increased agility, precisely controllable handling characteristics and an emotional design. One look at the BMW Concept M135i and the qualities crucial to that characteristic M Performance feeling are instantly evident.

The employment of a straight six-cylinder petrol power plant featuring M Performance Twin Power Turbo technology with a power output of more than 300 hp creates the ideal prerequisites for maximum dynamics in the premium compact segment and, in conjunction with rear-wheel drive concept still unique in this vehicle class, ensures unsurpassed driving pleasure so typical of a BMW.

Moreover, the characteristic handling precision of BMW M Performance automobiles is obtained through model-specific suspension technology that includes an M sports braking system and is perfectly adapted to match the supreme road performance. 18-inch M light alloys with a double spoke design additionally complement the concept car’s sporting character.

Body features typical M athletic design.
The front apron of the concept car boasts a typical M design, signalising intensive road-orientation, its large air intakes designed to match the cooling requirement of the powerful engine, ancillary components and large brakes. The three-dimensionally designed flaps on the air intakes give indication of the car’s direct association with motor racing.

In addition to intense road-orientation, the specific design of the rear end of the BMW Concept M135i emphasises above all the vehicle’s width. This is supplemented in particular by the three-dimensional modelling of the surfaces and the lower section of the rear apron finished in Dark Shadow metallic. Furthermore, the rear apron accommodates the exhaust system’s double tailpipe that features a dark chrome trim.

The BMW Concept M135i’s exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey and side window surrounds in BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line are a further feature of BMW M Performance automobiles.

Dynamic, stretched appearance. Concept study of the three-door BMW 1 Series.
Compared with the silhouette of the five-door BMW 1 Series, the three-door BMW Concept M135i makes an even more sporting and elegant statement. On the whole, the car has a more dynamic and elongated appearance. Viewed from the side, the car’s athletic, low-slung appearance and its nearness to the road are even more intensely expressed by an entirely horizontal contour line in the area of the doorsills. A dynamically rising character line symbolises the BMW Concept M135i’s urge to move forwards.

The wide doors are a further characteristic feature of the BMW Concept M135i’s body design. Together with the rear side windows, the frameless windows form a coherent window surface reaching back to the rear end, accentuating the body’s dynamically stretched appearance.

In addition, the surface design in the area of the rear side panels helps above all to emphasise the powerfully flared wheel arches. The visual accentuation of this part of the body directs the eye to the rear wheels, where the power of the six-cylinder power plant is transformed into driving dynamics in typical BMW manner.

Attractive prospects for the further development of the BMW 1 Series model range.
Thanks to a distinctively sports-oriented appearance, the BMW Concept M135i offers attractive prospects for the further development of the BMW 1 Series model range. At the same time, a clear signal has been given for the expansion of the new product category of BMW M Performance automobiles. The BMW M Performance automobiles being presented at the Geneva Motor Show and shortly to be launched are powered by the world’s most high-performing six-cylinder diesel engine available for series production vehicles. The petrol-fuelled models in this product category will also assume a similar unique position. The pre-series concept car BMW Concept M135i offers a fascinating outlook on a corresponding offer in the premium compact segment.

The world premiere of the BMW Concept M135i will take place at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, 6th March at 5 p.m. within the framework of the BMW DTM presentation. On the second media day (Wednesday, 7th March), the vehicle will be showcased all day at the BMW stand.

A car that dares to be different... and all the better for it! Those that complain that all cars look the same, those that complained that the new A3 is boring, this is the answer!

Why even bother making this a concept car? Is it just so you can put stripes on it? I doubt anything on it is going to be missing from the production car (well, except maybe those nice stripes, maybe they'll be optional), so they shouldn't beat around the bush and just call it the production version.

BMW is universally hated on here and especially on this model when every sane human being knows this car will sell by the boat loads and the bavarians will be laughing all the way to the bank while these people make assanine childish comments on a piece of motoring design that dares to be different by forgoing conventional ideals. Mayebe thats why BMW is so successful and Audi playing catchup. When that quality Audi interior is finally bested by BMW this is going to be a sad place to come to. The new 3 and 5 series has already made significant inrodads in that department. So i'll just get my popcorn and coke. I dont wana miss that show ;)

Exactly. This has nothing to do with not liking BMW. I think the new 5,6 and Z4 are great looking cars. The one series remains hideous however.

May I correct you? I think that WCF is a respective web site, it is not just a car forum where people can say anything they want. We all must be polite and patient to each other. And what do you mean when u call someone a bmw fanboy, or a stupid bmw fanboy? Am I the bmw fanboy? I am driving 1 series coupe 120d m-sport package. And I really like it. My father drives 5 series and my mum drives X3. Previously there were 7 series and 3 series coupe. I really love BMW. I am driving Toyota LC 100 also. Its a real tank) My first car was a 307 Peugeot)maybe that was a mistake. I can't say that BMW is the best car in the world. There are great cars made in Italy, Japan, UK, US, France and Germany of course. Audi has its own philosophy , Merc ,Porsche , VW they all do. Every car brand wants to be unique. I think that a person who likes Jag will never buy Lexus. A person who likes Lexus will never buy Jag. Of course he can buy both if he collects cars or maybe he has infinite money) They are both premium and both not cheap. But they are very different. All cars are different. Different people buy different cars. And I have QUESTION FOR EVERYONE ON THIS PAGE. Who am I ? My whole family drives BMWs. I am commenting a news article on my favorite WCF. I wrote STUNNING under a great car. Maybe I don't have a right or what??? There are too many spoilers and haters on WCF. People should respect each other. Am I the brainless narrow-minded bmw fanboy???? BTW this site is not only about headlights! I don't think its the most important part of the car. But who knows what makes marketing with people)

ts, there is a huge difference between a bmw fan and a brainless bmw fanboy. everyone here has preferences about car brands. but someone who consistently makes negative comments about other companies while mindlessly praising another is a fanboy. this type of behavior is by far most prevalent among those who seem to love the bmw brand. these people cannot stand any form of criticism, constructive or not, directed at their perfect brand. by today's standards, audi, mercedes and bmw all make exceptional cars for both the everyday consumer and the true car enthusiast. 10 years ago, this was obviously a different story. a true car enthusiast is an objective one, someone who is able to discern the pros and cons of a car without any regard to the badge that is stuck on the front. unfortunately, there are many people here who are incapable of doing so. i will stick to my opinion that this new 1 series is one of the ugliest cars to ever come out of germany. the new 6 series on the other hand, is a true work of art.

RWD + Hatchback + 300bhp = Win. I'll order one as soon as I graduate. I'll just get the turbos, intercooler, injectors front and rear bumper from the 1M. I'll have the first 1M Hatch.

I'm afraid the rear bumper won't fit due to the wider fenders on the 1M. You'll need a longer shopping list to match a 1M anyway - the suspension, the steering rack and more. Fitting the same tires on the 1M would make your hatch look like a tractor!

Don't be surprised that BMW will show a coup? concept version of this same car for the North American market--probably as early as the 2012 New York Auto Show.

No matter how hard they try, that front end just can't be made to look any better and is an absolute disaster. The rest of the car is quite nice and I'm sure it will drive amazingly. Just don't approach it from the front.....
