2015 BMW 7-Series to feature carbon fiber construction - report
2010 BMW 7-Series M Sport Package

Could be lighter, more fuel efficient

In a recent interview, BMW's head of research and development revealed the next-generation 7-Series will feature carbon fiber construction.

Speaking with Autocar, Klaus Draeger said the car would likely feature carbon fiber, aluminum and steel. This means we can expect the lightweight material to be used in the roof, hood and trunk lid.

These changes could enable the 2015 7-Series to be significantly lighter than the current model, so expect improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

With some Carbon fiber and a totally new design language...well that might just do it...let's wait and see whether the BMW boys can turn the current bulk that is the 7 Series into a super suave and elegant looking business Icon that it was in the past.

Not a big fan of the 7 Series (S-Class all the way for me...) but you have to appreciate the fact that BMW is working on incorporating methods like this to reduce weight and improve efficiency of automobiles...that will someday work its way down to all cars.

well, i don't want to join in on the S-Class vs 7-Series turf war, but i will say this. Someday, Carbon Fiber will become mainstream with many vehicles. as time progresses, innovations will become cheaper.
