Based on the Porsche Cayenne

The rumor mill is kicking into overdrive as new details are starting to emerge about Lamborghini's upcoming crossover.

Auto Express is reporting the model will be introduced at the Beijing Motor Show as the MLC concept. It will reportedly have three doors and a front end that resembles the Estoque concept.

The crossover is slated to ride on a modified version of the platform that underpins the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. Details are limited, but the magazine says the architecture will incorporate a carbon fiber transmission tunnel and other lightweight features. Thanks to these changes, the model will reportedly weigh less than 2,000 kg (4,409 lbs).

Power could be provided by a 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces approximately 584 hp (435 kW / 592 PS). Eventually, there could be a hybrid variant with more than 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS).

If everything pans out, the model will be launched in 2015. Production could total 1,500 units annually and pricing is expected to start at roughly $200,000 (€151,195 / £127,650).

MLC stands for Modular Longitudinal Construction Kit (Modularer Längsbaukasten) which is - according to the contemporary business strategy - under development in charge of AUDI for all upcoming mid-sized as well as big SUVs of the VW group and comes with a longitudinal assembly of engine + gearbox.

MLC for those who are suffering from Mid Life Crisis. seriously, this is just a cash cow for lamborghini (pun intended). why not? VW is milking the Toureg platform to porsche, lambo and soon bentley.

Great use of the Cash-cow-enne... Still, its the best SUV in the world, in my humble opinion, so I guess they could have had a worse start. BTW, would it not then be technically more correct to say on Touareg underpinnings, as that is the mother company's version of the same platform. Or would that kill all street cred for this version?

I respect your humble opinion but Hummers are still the best SUVs in the world, eventhough GM gave up on them too soon. I was counting on Lamborghini to come up with some bold successor to the LM002, but I'm saddened by the looks of this cute SUV, I mean "Crossover"

I dunno about that, they are not really in the same class. The Hummers are along the lines of the Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, etc. Meaning- actual 4x4s. The SUV is supposed to be softer. So, by that definition, is how I judge them. As 4x4s go, yeah, the H1 is my fave. 4x4 too
