SRT Barracuda to replace the Dodge Challenger - report
2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition

Could ride on a new rear-wheel platform

According to a recent report, Chrysler is developing a new Barracuda to replace the Dodge Challenger.

Motor Trend says the model will be significantly smaller than the Challenger and eschew its retro-inspired styling. It could also ride on a new rear-wheel platform that is separate from the one used on the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. If this pans out, the architecture could be used on several upcoming Alfa Romeos including a sports car, a coupe and a sedan.

We're taking everything with a grain of salt, but the magazine says the ‘Cuda could eventually be sold under the SRT brand.

Definitely taken with a grain of salt. I like the resurrection of the name, but why get rid of the Challenger name? If you ask me, Challenger is just as historic as Barracuda.

couldn't agree more...the Barracuda should be a Challenger companion in a fight against Camaro and Mustang!

The challenger is such a fat pig of a car....it is not even in the same league as the Camaro or the Mustang. It is like the fat kid at recess that always comes in last. If they want to do something, figure out how to shave 1000 lbs off of it.

This car was built with purists and enthusiasts in mind, those that wanted this car when they were kids and now cannot find a suitable body to restore or doesn't have the know-how or the funds it requires to restore one. This was supposed to resemble the original 1970's models as close as legally possible. I'm not sure how much it weights, but I don't think that was the main priority as you can see by the looks of it.

At least you can actually see out the Challenger (and the Mustang)...you practically have to squint to see anything behind the wheel of the Camaro. And yes, it looks pretty good, but I like how Chrysler actually bothered making sure the driver can actually see. The Camaro sacrifices practicality (and the driver's vision) for the sake of looking cool. The Challenger is a real muscle car that can be driven comfortably when you want to relax...and smoke tires when you want to have fun.

let's hope the next alfa coupe based on that platform looks more like the GT and less like the Brera, and has a twin-turbo diesel through an AWD transmission :)

too busy wanting to race instead of concentrating on building the care. its a shame the challenger is leaving. why not have both and make improvements. just as they say. you can put a man on the moon but you can fix a tiny glitch in the challenger..

THE BARRACUDA IS SUCH AN UGLY CAR. AGAIN THIS PROJECT WILL NEVER BE A SUCCESS. MAY AS WELL IMPROVE ON THE CHALLENGER. THEY ARE WAY BETTER. JUST A WEIGHT PROBLEM AND HANDLING THAT CAN BE FIXED. HOW BAD.
