 Hyundai consider high performance i40
Hyundai i40 sedan 12.05.2011

A new Hyundai i30 hot hatch is not the only model that is under consideration by the Asian auto maker. It is now being reported that they are also have a hot i40 in the works as well.

The news stems from Allan Rushforth, Hyundai Europe's COO who confirmed the news on the launch of the regular i30. "A Hyundai GTI? That's not just a C-segment question [i30], but a D-segment [i40] one as well," Rushforth said. "We have talked about such cars and are considering versions not only with more performance, but dynamic improvements to ride and handling, too."

The performance variants of their models are considered essential to the brand's expansion. The turbo version of the Veloster was launched at the Detroit Auto Show last month and rumor state the turbo line-up will expand in 2013.

A series of performance versions of Hyundais. Welcome to the game??? Hopefully this will be a start of improving driving dynamics of their cars through out the range. They may be getting faster...but a recent high speed braking experience in a Genesis was nerve wrecking...got ways to go if they want to catch up with Mercedes in the panic braking department.

They may use the Veloster turbo engine in the i40 which is a good idea. And they need to use the Sonata's 2.0 turbo in the Veloster for a hotter model.

It appears that the Veloster Turbo's 200 bhp engine (essentially a turbo version of the "Gamma" GDI engine) could make it to the Elantra, probably only on the North American market two-door coupe and GT hatchback only.
