2013 Range Rover spied undergoing winter testing
Could be introduced later this year
The 2013 Range Rover is inching closer to production as our spies have caught another prototype undergoing cold weather testing.
Heavily disguised, the model has an evolutionary design with prominent headlights, a clamshell hood and a sloping roofline. We can also see large door mirrors and vertical taillights.
The Range Rover is expected to grow in size, but the model will reportedly ride on an aluminum-intensive platform that was co-developed with Jaguar. This could enable the SUV to weigh 400 kg (882 lbs) less than its predecessor.
Engine options will likely carryover, but we can expect to see a plug-in hybrid variant which borrows some technology from the Range_e concept.

No way, if it weighs 400kg less, fill it with 600kg qorth of bells and whistles. This is the only true competitor for... Green Peace. It needs a huge motor, but not fast. It needs leather made from Baby pandas too. Do not nice this car into a lower calss please! Nothing compares to a real Rangie, lets keep it that way.

Its gonna be scattered around London and that erases some of the appeal for me, just like the S-Class... don't get me wrong, I am not doubting that it would be another class leader.

I've said it before...I really hope the almost 800lb. weight reduction does not result in the new Rangie feeling thin and "green". I hate the way the new X3, ML, Cayenne and Touareg feel. The doors now feel hollow and light, in almost all new high end SUVs. My 2011 full size Range Rover Supercharged, now has 13,500 miles on it, and it has been 100% FLAWLESS since day one (it's almost 15 months old). It is a tank...heavy, bank vault solid and over-built. With all the dozens of Mercedes and BMWs I've had over the last almost 20 years, my Rangie has been (shockingly) the best car I have ever owned!! Please, Please do not make the new Range Rover "cost cutted" and cheap!!
