Kia K9 flagship sedan sketches released
All-new Kia K9 flagship sedan sketch

Kia has revealed the first sketches that reveal the design for the all-new range topping sedan that is set to be launched in Korea in the next few months.

It is known internally by the codename KH but we expect it to be called the Kia K9 when production stage is reached. We caught a prototype of the model while out testing last week and these sketches reveal what the engineers were trying to hide.

It is the Korean company's first foray into the rear-wheel-drive market and will feature the pinnacle high-tech technology that Kia has to offer.

Launch dates for international markets are yet to be confirmed.

Kia reveals sketches of all-new flagship sedan

  • Kia’s first rear-wheel drive vehicle
  • To be launched in domestic Korean market in the first half of 2012
  • Launch timings for other markets to be confirmed

Kia Motors today revealed thefirst official sketches of its all-new flagship sedan, which is expected toestablish new standards for design flair in the large sedan segment.

Codenamed KH, the new model is Kia’s first ever rear-wheel drive sedan and combines innovative design with high-tech features. KH is among the company’s most eagerly anticipated new models and will be launched in Kia’s domestic market in the first half of 2012.

The design concept behind KH is ’distinctive, modern and classic’, which is expressed through sophisticated, technically-advanced elements combined with Kia’s existing dynamic design language to create a vehicle that truly stands out from its competitors.

The new model features a bold front-end design appropriate to a luxury car. Kia’s charismatic family-look radiator grille is flanked by modern headlamps that reinforce the brand’s innovative challenger image, and the proportions of the unique hood design give KH a classic car-like feel.

KH’s profile, which was a key focus for Kia’s designers during development, features a simple side character line to give a feeling of spaciousness while emphasizing the new model’s bold and dynamic image. The high-tech rear combination lamp clusters, plus the luxurious, bold chrome accent give KH a sophisticated and stable rear view.

Soon-Nam Lee, Kia’s Director of the Overseas Marketing Group, says,“Our all-new flagship sedan integrates all of our key capabilities such as design, performance, high-tech features and infotainment into one striking model.

“Although launch timings for overseas markets are yet to be confirmed, this all-new rear-wheel drive large sedan will definitely become the leading model of our line-up around the world, showcasing the best of the best of Kia.”

The side grills look very Maserati ish, headlights and front end/bonnet detail are very BMW-like. But lets see the car in the flesh. Looks good

Respect to Kia for daring to enter the upmarket area, where companies like Ford (Europe), Opel, VW, Peugeot and others have failed and dropped out. Will Kia succeed or will they come to realize it was a fatal attempt?

Hopefully it is for Asia only. Looks damn good, but as PAA said - Europe is not ready for luxury cars offered by mainstream manufacturers. Price can not simply make up for lack of prestige.

Can't wait for this one...looks mean and menacing. I hope they make the fron tend a little more sharper (like a Shark's nose)...now it looks a little too blunt...but I like it anyway. Let's see how it goes against the Big Ones....

I?m sorry Kia, I expected a bit more of Peter Schreyer and his design team, look at the amazing frankfurt show concept http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Kia-GT-Concept-1.jpg and now look at this one, just compare the headlamps and the rear lamps to the BMW 5 GT, http://video.autobild.de/tv/assets/d1/b9/01314_466x350-0.jpg and http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c5/BMW_5er_GT_front.jpg

I'm sorry Hyundai/Kia might have become competitive of late, but there is nothing original in any of their "bold designs"

Kia had rwd cars in the past based on the Mazda 929/Sentia in the past...so technically it's not th first foray into this market for them. It is the first rwd Kia under the Hyundai ownership.
