Volkswagen BlueSport still under consideration - report
VW Concept BlueSport

Could be launched within three years

When Porsche CEO Matthias Müller halted plans for an entry-level roadster, many of us assumed the Volkswagen Bluesport was dead in the water. However, that doesn't appear to be the case according to a recent report.

In an interview with EVO, Volkswagen engineering boss Uli Hackenberg said the model is still under consideration despite a low sales forecast. He added the entry-level sports car market will likely see renewed interest thanks to several new models like the Toyota GT 86, Scion FR-S, and Subaru BRZ. Hackenberg went on to say the current exchange rates could make German cars more competitive in America, which could boost demand.

If the stars line up, Hackenberg expects a revised sales forecast will push estimates past the 50,000 unit mark required for production. Should this occur, the Bluesport and an Audi variant could arrive within three years.

Interesting, some folks regard the TT as an Golf in an Audi "frock". No, this would be a mid-engine car, not front engine, front wheel drive.

Iv heard that too, The chassis is VW but with an Audi TT bagde on it. I would be very suprised if it is mid-engined, Thats alot of new engineering/research to do But if this chassis and mid-engine/transmisson will be used for the next this VW concept AND Audi TT then yes, Thats a possibilty. Sounds like maybe it could be based on the new Porsche Boxter or coxster to save on costs. Maybe it maybe an all new platform as the new golf/A3 ??

Well, I guess this updates the timeline. Last I'd heard it was supposed to be a 2014 model arriving in 2013. This pushes it out further, adding more years between show car and debut.

Damn this looks nice especially the little vents on the rear deck. VW needs a mid-engine, rear drive roadster. Just make sure the 2.0L turbo has more than 250hp, it has a manual option, is less than $35k and you don't change anything else. If I was to change anything aesthetically, I'd like round projector fog-lights up front and proper round quad exhausts tips. EDIT: Just read the wiki and it lists the weight at 2600lbs and TDI engine. In that case, please make this ASAP. 200hp/260lb-ft will be fine then.

As a (not self prescribed) hipster, I will take this over a boxster. If they do make it, I can't imagine it wouldn't be sublime.

They know they'll be fighting their own selves with this and the TT so obviously if the numbers don't add up (especially with the recession) they won't do it. I hope they do cause by that time I will be looking to replace my Opel GT. This would be like a downgrade especially if VW gives this the 1.4t engine but I would go for it.

You know this car will be out dated by the time it hits the market, VW should "JUST DO IT"...and stop talking about doing it, if it was such a great concept it would of been out by now, so sad how the play us!. Vertoit Broker.
