Porsche developing lightweight MSB platform for next-gen Panamera - report
Could also be used by Bentley and Lamborghini
New details are starting to emerge about the MSB platform (modular standard architecture) that will reportedly underpin future Bentleys, the next-generation Porsche Panamera and possibly a Lamborghini or two.
According to Car and Driver, the platform is being developed by Porsche and will be used on front-engined, rear- and all-wheel drive vehicles. The architecture will reportedly have steel and aluminum construction which could enable it to weigh at least 200 lbs (91 kg) less that the current Panamera platform.

It's not just a rumour. Volkswagen announced it at the bottom of the MQB press release.

Can you paste that excerpt here because I dont see any mention of applications for Bentley or Lamborghini. Nor does it say anything about MSB being 200 lbs lighter.

already they are thinking of another platform, this car has is still sort of new. Look at the maserati quattroporte, that has been out 6years+ and it looks better with age.
Why not just add new lightwieght doors or boot lid or bonnet or seats or interior. But at least keep this mk1 version for anther 3 to 5 years. About time you've bought a car another one comes outs. Cant keep up

It will be around for at least that length of time. A platform takes time to develop, and then more time to develop the vehicle itself.

Porsche is planning to make their next car lighter than the current one? What news!

The news is not just that the next Panamera will be lighter, but that Porsche is developing a lighter, modular platform to be used by the top end VW Group models, the likes of the Bentley Continental, VW Phaeton, Lamborghini Estoque etc...
