2013 Mercedes A-Class caught completely undisguised [video]

Dutch cycling club OGOTT caught the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class completely undisguised during a cycling tour on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The occassion was a photo shoot most likely for promotional materials to be distributed once the vehicle has its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Thankfully, the cyclist had a GoPro action cam mounted to his handlebars to show us the details.

In the video we can see all of the front end. Looking quite close to the B-Class, the headlamps are infused with LEDs and the grille has a single wing design as previously seen in the A-Class concept. The front bumper is quite aggressive looking, and combined with AMG wheels we're inclined to believe this is an AMG sport package.

Recently, Mercedes released a teaser video promoting a scavenger hunt contest called A-Class QR-Trophy. Certainly, this spy video puts a crimp in the remainder of the vehicle's teaser campaign.

As we have previously reported, the 2012 A-Class will ride on the new MFA platform which also underpins the B-Class. Engine options will likely carryover from its bigger brother, so expect five petrols with outputs ranging from 109 PS (80 kW / 108 hp) to 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp). There should also be four diesels with 122 PS (90 kW / 120 hp) to 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp).

That's not the A-Class, but either the B25 AMG or the B-Class with the AMG package. Look at the headlights and the taillights.

it's better looking than any A class before it, way better looking than the 1 series BMW, but still I'm not keen on the front end. too bulky....

I am inclined to believe the so-called spy footages were staged and probably by Mercedes itself. The steady manner which the camera was manipulated to pan onto the moving car means it wasn't done in a haste.

Assuming Mercedes produced the video just because it's edited is quite a leap. The cyclist who captured the footage could have easily edited in this panning slow mo shot to give a better look.

Agree. But the manner in which the camera was manipulated to pan onto the moving A-Class was simply too neat to have been executed unplanned, plus the positioning and timing were all rather perfect. It was quite unlike the other spy videos. Just saying. ~Jerry ;)

The camera was not moved. It was done in the post edit. This type of editing technique is not reserved for professionals only. Anyone with half way decent editing software can do this.

That's pretty hot. Looks like an AMG sports package with the spoiler and wheels which helps, but in any case an absolutely massive improvement on the previous generations.

Beautiful!! This, and the upcoming A3 is the ones that I will turn my heads to. Everytime I look at the 1 series, I want to puke.

My eyes hurt! It is hideous. What's wrong with every manufacturer lately putting a huge grille on the front that looks like a huge gaping mouth...
