Company reaches settlement with Carroll Shelby Licensing

Shelby SuperCars (SSC) has announced plans to adopt a "new corporate identity strategy which more clearly identifies itself as a North American super car manufacturer." As such, the company will be known as SSC North America.

While the press release is full of typical marketing jargon, the real reason for the name change is a dispute with Carroll Shelby Licensing and their parent company Carroll Shelby International. As you may know, SSC was founded by Jerod Shelby who has no relation to automotive icon Carroll Shelby.

As SCC explains, "Now is ... a good time to clear up any potential confusion, as from time to time we get asked if we are associated in any way with the automotive legend Carroll Shelby or his companies."

SSC Announces New Corporate Identity

SSC North America, the American supercar manufacturer and the creator of the record breaking Ultimate Aero and the recently unveiled Tuatara, announces a new corporate identity strategy which more clearly identifies itself as a North American super car manufacturer.

According to Jerod Shelby, Founder and Lead Designer, "After several months of successfully launching our new corporate name and solidifying further International brand awareness for SSC at the Dubai International Motor Show and Top Marques in Macau, it was the right time to officially announce our name change."

"We have always wanted to focus on the pride associated with being an American built supercar and the timing is right," Shelby stated.   "We have previously launched the Tuatara in both Shanghai and Pebble Beach and these two events in Dubai and Macau ensure the appropriate branding we are hoping to achieve for our company worldwide."

Now is also a good time to clear up any potential confusion, as from time to time we get asked if we are associated in any way with the automotive legend Carroll Shelby or his companies.   SSC North America, the super car manufacturer is in no way associated with Carroll Shelby or any related entities.

It's better this guy changed the company name - really, I think a lot of people would associate it to Carrol and look at the situation as basically riding on his coat tails (even if he's got the same last name).

This good news, because I think it was very confusing from the start. I think he will be better off by distancing himself Carrol Shelby. Now if Jerod Shelby can use the money from Dubai to get production going and move out of his backyard garage that would be awesome. America needs a supercar, not heavily modified donor cars.
