Incredible cars!!! 6.3 liters/100 km for M550d... Only 4,7 seconds.....the most appealing diesel cars in the world!!!

Wow, M performance, the next step down from M devision.....and it's highly efficient diesel, cool :) I need to consider this :D

I'm glad they finally stoped censoring that x6, I had no clue what kind of car it was -.-
But yeah, these are pretty impressive figures, a disel M car... what's next? S350 Turbodisel AMG? (... yeah... right?)

AMG division is developing diesel cars for some years, they started few years ago with C30 CDI AMG, in future the AMG will base on diesel engines, rumored E50 CDI AMG is on the way, it will be V8 Biturbo and with 400hp at least and close to 1000Nm....and that is the insiders info!

i just cant wait to see pictures of the engine bay. im so curious how they layed it out

Who would have thought M would give us AWD and diesel! Good specs though I need to be convinced how these cars are like to maintain.
January 25, 2012 11:55 pm
Now imagine the next M3 with this engine... Its a traditional M3 straight six, less power than before but way more torque...
January 25, 2012 11:59 pm
awd n powerful diesel engine will sell well in europe plus wit m packages will be awesome direct competition to da audi s-line diesels
January 26, 2012 12:01 am
THIS IS NOT M-PACKAGE! THIS ARE M-PERFORMANCE CARS! Get your facts right, Audi doesn't even have a competitor to this cars! s-LINE Diesel Quattro's are not competitor of this cars they are competitor for e.x. BMW 535d Xdrive with M-Pack.

fascinating engine, but the front lip is not the one from the real M5, the backend isn't the one of the M either. So this actually is just an 550xd M-Line. The M badge shouldn't be there.

After mesmerizing us with engine performance specifications...where then are the resultant fuel consumption figures as well as Euro 5 compliance certifications , WCF ?
January 26, 2012 12:35 am
See press release above for more specifications and details.

BMW isnt the only carmaker that made a tri-turbo, Porsche is doing it aswell with the new 911 Turbo/GT2. And if thoes M power diesel are rapid i can inmaging what the 911 would be like
January 26, 2012 1:58 am
That "made" a tri-turbo? The new 911 Turbo will be out in late 2013 (Europe) or spring 2014 (US). And what is your source for this info?

Can someone please explain to me this whole diesel saga? how is it better than gasoline? Okay, a diesel powered car consumes less fuel but doesn't it still emit dangerous particles and nitrous oxygen? Here's an interesting article:
http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/the_green_lantern/2008/04/will_diesel_save_the_world.html
"According to a 2002 Stanford University study, even if all diesels were designed to meet California's emissions standards, diesel cars could still warm the globe more than petrol cars over the next half-century."

M550d my new car this summer definately, I expected it to be much pricier, but this is really a bargain!
January 26, 2012 3:30 am
More than 80.000? is really a bargain? Ok. You must be an investment banker!

well if you compare it to the M5....and this is also a bargain on a long term period, it consumes less fuel which is also cheaper than petrol, and also diesel is less depreciating so it is more valuable...nowadays you can take a loan and pay it of in 24months...so it can be purchased!
January 26, 2012 1:06 pm
yes I can't exactly...but this is better in many ways than M car and offering close performance fiugures....for many drivers they will never enter a race circuit in their new M5, so in real life the M550d is the close M5 rival...on motorway you are almost as fast...you should really trash the M5 to be ahead of M550d...and all that for less money, better economy...not to mention everyday usability...so yes in some ways this M550d is rational's mana M5 :D
January 26, 2012 4:37 pm
you might see 0.6 second as a close performance figure but actually it is not for cars as fast as these (X6M= 4.7, X6 M50d= 5.3 0to100km/h). The X6 50i is doing it in 5.4 seconds. Yes these cars are fast diesels but you really can't compare them to real M cars. neither in terms of performance, nor in terms of motorsports inspiration...
January 27, 2012 10:53 am
No one will allow this.Other automakers will not survive the competition and go bankrupt =)

Amazing cars and performance, the only criticism I have for BMW is the nomenclature and the low revving the engines are
January 26, 2012 9:57 am
i believe that low-revving engines are a plus as these lessen the burden of stress applied to the powerplant structure during its maximum operation and all the while achieving ideal horsepower/torque output at the same time .

also less hi-revving prologes engine life...and diesels are already more durable than petrol engines
January 26, 2012 4:33 pm
it puzzles me at why BMW did not throw in the X3 into the mix . episode to be continued upon arrival of the X4 , perhaps ? the X3 looks real svelte than the X5/X6s ungainly bulldog-ish appearance
January 26, 2012 3:37 pm
Was decided to go for the M5, but now I'm seriously thinking if this M550d would be an overall better buy...
