The new 2013 BMW M6 GranCoupe has been caught for the first time by our spy photographers whilst doing a round of testing in its native Germany.

The M6 Grandcoupe is essentially a four door version of the regular M6 coupe. It will feature the same 4.4-liter turbo V-8 found in the 2012 BMW M5, although we expect to see the M division pump a few more ponies out of its larger sibling. The M5 comes with 557 PS (410 kW / 549 bhp), but we expect the M6 Grancoupe to come closer to 600 PS (441 kW / 591 bhp).

The prototype caught here is easily distinguishable from the regular 6-series GranCoupe which was launched just a few weeks a go by its quad-exhaust layout, more aggressive front and rear fascias and larger wheels .

Unfortunately we are going to have to wait until the end of the year to see this model in full production form as this variant is the final piece of the M6 model line-up jigsaw. The Bavarian automaker will launch the coupe and cabriolet variants of the M6 before releasing the GranCoupe.

Is it supposed to be carrying the M6 name as well? I thought this was supposed to be the replacement for the 8 Series...called the Gran Coupe. This car is beautiful...but I think it's the right time for BMW to bring back the legendary 8 Series...a 2 Door Super Sports GT with a reinforced Carbon Fiber Chassis and either a monstrous V10 Biturb or V12 Biturbo or even a full Electric propulsion powered by a Microturbine...come on...I can't wait any longer....
