Could be one of the lightest hard tops on the market

When Ferrari unveiled the 458 Spider, we were impressed by the roadster's aluminum hard top that weighed 25 kg (55 lbs) less than a conventional soft top.

Now there's word the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider will have a carbon fiber roof that will flip backwards and retract into a compartment between the engine and passengers. While the folding arrangement isn't ground breaking, the use of carbon fiber will likely enable the roof to be significantly lighter than traditional hard tops.

As we have previously reported, the convertible will have some minor styling tweaks as well as a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 600 PS (441 kW / 592 hp) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.
