Minor tweaks for the EV

A couple of pictures have surfaced online which purportedly show the production Audi R8 e-tron interior.

Posted by Audiblog.nl, the photographs reveal a cabin that has been outfitted with a revised steering wheel, a center console-mounted MMI controller and a new gear knob which is much smaller than the previously proposed unit (see the third photo for a comparison).

As you may recall, the R8 e-tron has a 53 kWh lithium-ion battery which powers four electric motors that develop 313 PS (230 kW / 308 hp) and 4,500 Nm (3,319 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and travel up to 250 km (155 miles) on a single charge. Once depleted, the battery can be replenished in six to eight hours with a standard household outlet.

why would we need a gear knob anyhow ?? a set of (D)(R)(P) buttons should suffice. (?la Tesla).

I think a few buttons would do too, certainly a lot better than the shifter knob

I'm a little surprised that it gets 4.8 seconds 0 to 62 with only 308hp and that much torque. Wouldn't the batteries also weight the car down too?!

The weight shouldn't be all that different, think of all the things it doesn't have an engine, exaust pipes, a gas tank Ect Ect.

What about quick charging? 6-8 Hours of Charging Time is a wee bit too long. I thought quick charging is a norm these days with all the Supercapacitors and Carbon-Nanotube Li-Ion Polymer batteries. Theoretically you can charge a huge Supercapacitor with a lot of Power in a jiffy and drive off. The supercapacitor then charges the Carbon-Nanotube Li-Ion Polymer batteries gradually over another 30 Minutes until the Supercapacitor is depleted and the Battery is Full.
