2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS wagon / shooting brake spied on [video]

First spy shots of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class wagon variant first showed up a couple of months ago. Now spies have caught the prototype vehicle on video during winter testing in northern Sweden near the Arctic Circle.

Previewed as the CLS Shooting Brake concept at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed the model will go to production. Daimler AG chairman, Dr. Dieter Zetsche stated, "The decision to build the CLS Shooting Brake underscores the leading role of Mercedes-Benz in regards of innovative passenger car concepts and design - and that is exactly what the customers expect from us."

Engines expected are the same as in the CLS-Class four-door coupe. Expect a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp) 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a  265 PS (195 kW / 262 hp) 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 306 PS  (225 kW / 302 hp) 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, and a 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) 500 BlueEFFICIENCY.

Scheduled to launch in 2012, the wagon/estate variant will be built at the Sindelfingen plant and compete with the Audi A7, BMW 5-Series GT, and Porsche Panamera.

I love Mercedes benz grew up in them since my dad bought his 1970 280 se he was fixIn in 91. Than his 97 e class. Than is 99 s class ect. I was born to be Mercedes fan like my son will be. But this is unexpectable. Sure it kinda looks nice but at the same time it looks something like a hearse. ( dont think I spelled correctly) Same problem with the R class. This might do well in Europe but not in USA. By the way the Cls was already a contender against the a7.. No need for a hatch back. Benz sucks at hatch backs.

We have the C and E class wagon already, Merc should remove the two rear passenger doors (ferrari ff) and this will make sense afterall they came with the Fascination Concept first and Merc takes too long from concept to production!

a thing of beauty, but as commented already; it's likely to be a failure like the R-Class i don't see the need for this shooting brake, the CLS owner is like "i have too much money for a C-Class or E-Class, so i'll buy i CLS", who would buy this, if they really need an estate, they can go for the E-Class estate, the E-Class is built on the same platform so they'll be the same size

I think its a good looking vehicle and much better looking than an E or C class wagon. You may not like it but your wives will.

This is so stupid looking. The back window pane shape is horrible! Does not fit the overall shape of the car.

Let me apologize for saying Mercedes sucks at hatch backs. The E wagon is nice. But the old c class coupe left a bad taste in my mouth. Just my opinion. It's a euro thing I guess?

Huge Benz fan, and former employee. I love the CLS and I love estates so I got excited when I saw the headline, unfortunately they failed on this one. This is hideous, the rear looks worse than the panamera's rear (which I think is one of the worst in the industry for any segment) and over all it looks like a lowered R with a lower a pillar. I'm bummed they didn't pull this off.

Yet the best selling Porsche by far. The back is much better in person on the Panamera, and the car is awesome to drive.
