Bugatti Veyron does 1/4 mile in 10.1 sec against Nissan GT-R

The 1,001 PS (736 KW / 987 bhp) Bugatti Veyron never fails to captivate regardless of whether you love or loathe the supercar. With its quad-turbocharged W16 engine and a price tag that is unattainable for 99 percent of the world, the Veyron is a vehicle no self-respecting car enthusiast would deny appreciating.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the Nissan GT-R which is widely considered the greatest underdog of the supercar world despite not being a supercar. Still, its price tag is ten times more attainable than the Bugatti's while still posting performance that is in the same neighborhood - although slightly down the street.

Here we have a video of the two opponents squaring off for a 1/4 mile duel at the Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida. As the story goes, the owner of the Bugatti was actually at the adjacent road course before being persuaded to take a run on the drag strip. The result is a head nodding 10.1 seconds at 139.4 mph (224 km/h). For comparison, Road & Track magazine managed a 10.2 seconds at 142.9 mph (230 km/h).

The Nissan GT-R still pulled off an incredible time of 10.9 at 125.7 mph (202.3 km/h) despite having a late reaction to the tree lights. For comparison, with a 2012 model Inside Line managed a 11.2 seconds at 124.1 mph (199.7 km/h).

Wonder how much profit Nissan makes on each GTR as the car could easily sell for twice the price with all its technology. I would love to have the GTR!

So the GT-R costs 10 times less, has 10 cylinders less and the margin is 0.8s? I'm sorry but it's the GT-R that never fails to captivate me.

lets do a 0-400 km/h test and see how close the GT-R is going to be.

...and that would be the only thing the Veyron is actually good at, straight line speed. Got its ass whooped on Top Gear's track by a GT-R. It's an overrated machine.

To hell with a car who's good only on straight line, Veyron's most overrated car ever, Mclaren would kill him on the track also.

the Veyron was built to be a GT car, not a track car. No other car is as confirtable at high speeds as the Veyron. It does what it was built for and it does a very good job at it.

This is probably the most stupid comment I have ever read. There are some reasons why Bugatti (Volkswagen) decided to use 8.0l W16 engine, instead of using V8 or V6 with less displacement...

the gtr has amazed me since it came out, im still in wonderment about how it achieves its blistering performance from mediocre bhp and 1600kg weight, does it have a more efficient drive-train? (the 2012 bmw has a 20% power loss at the rear wheelshttp://youtu.be/CMhnTB6Fy6A) oh this particular gtr has a bit of a tune though!

Well I think the reality is, that both these two cars are very unique amongst everything on wheels on the planet. The Veyron shows that, brute power is not the only way of cracking 400km/h, and to be able to do so without breaking a sweat. The GT-R on the other hand, well its not just the price-to-performance thing, it's how all rounded this machine is that is amazing. While other supercars have "soul", this car has got "brain", lots of them.

GTR goes great guns but to compare the two on 1/4 mile times misses the point of the two cars entirely. I would say the GTR was made to show that you don't need lots of $ to get supercar peformance but cars like the Veyron show that there's more to supercars than just peformance.

This is the equivalent of 2 sexy chics doing a cat fight before a girl on girl scene. Every time I see a Bugatti Veyron being challenged and I see how it just flies away like some kind of UFO, I cant help feel like a teenager with an uncontrollable boner. Its just an amazing sight I could watch all day.

The world's best hyper car and the latest generation sports coupe going at it. I would love to see a drag between the R34 and R35, with all he electronic aids switched off. For some reason, I have always found the R34 easier to control.

Stop with this '10 times more than a GT-R' stuff. Chris Harris said it best, no car will be 10 times, let alone 3 times, as good as a GT-R. Both are incredible cars and represent different goals, GT-R to make supercar performance affordable and the Veyron to be the definitive motoring experience

I love both of them...one made to be an 'affordable' Sports Car and the other one is a Billionaire's Boy Toy... Sadly I can't afford both of them at this point...even if the Nissan GTR is "ten times more affordable than the Bugatti Veyron".

First of all, I love the GTR as it is what the Datsun240Z(Nissan) was back in the 1970's. The Veyron needs so much horsepower is to past the 200mph barrier. It takes at least 500 horsepower(aerodynamics, power:weight ratio, etc) to pass or at least approach 200mph. For each mph over 200 mph you need even way more horsepower because of all the friction.
