BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe priced 79,500 euros
2012 BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe media campaign 19.12.2011

German BMW enthusiast site BimmerToday is reporting pricing for the recently revealed BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe ahead of its planned launch in March.

The new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe has a price of €79,500 euros in Germany starting with the base model 640i Gran Coupe which has a 320 PS (235 kW / 315 hp) 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. For the six-cylinder equipped models, the price is approximately €4,800 more than comparable 6-Series Coupe. That places the 3.0-liter diesel engine with 313 PS (230 kW / 309 hp) in the 640d at €83,000.

However, the same formula does not apply to the top of the line V8-powered 650i Gran Coupe which starts at €92,600. This is due to the newly developed twin-turbo V8 engine which adds Valvetronic variable valve timing which gives an additional 50 PS for a total of 450 PS (330 kW / 443 hp). The 650i Gran Coupe xDrive adds €3,400.

In comparisson, the Audi A7 Sportback and Mercedes CLS are priced significantly lower. Prices for the Audi A7 start as low as €48,900 for the 2.8 FSI with front-wheel drive, and the A7 3.0 TFSI with 300 PS (221 kW / 296 hp) starts at €58,600 - a whopping €20,900 less than a similarly equipped 6-Series Gran Coupe.

Same situation for the Mercedes-Benz CLS 250 CDI which starts at €59,857 while the 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) CLS 350 costs €64,617 - almost €15,000 less than the 640i Gran Coupe. The Mercedes CLS 500 with 408 PS (400 kW / 402 hp) costs €80,563 - just slightly more than the base 640i with 320 PS.

U.S. sales of the 6 Series Gran Coupe begin in June 2012 with only three models: the BMW 640i, 650i and 650i xDrive with the latter two launching in late summer.

As I expected before, this car is priced for Panamera and Quattroporte range, instead of A7 and CLS in which fill a class above A6/E-Class but below A8/S-Class. Though the car yet looks special, but I bet the design is going to age well, somehow it could be the reincarnation of first 6 which now commonly praised for being a clean design car. Personally I wouldn't mind if BMW throw a long wheelbase version with a proper 3 seats in the back, young business person in Asia and Australia are going to like it, so they don't have to follow their old man to buy common S-class, 7-series and A8, don't have to worry their young kids break the Maserati or can't properly sit in Panamera.

You are wrong! The Quattroporte MSRP for the standard model is 116330Eur. The GTS is 135416Eur. It is right on par with the Panamera (NOT THE TURBO), but the Quattroporte is on the next level, with the Panamera TURBO. As for your other comments: a LWB would be interesting, though they won't do it because it will impede sales of the 7er and the the 5er LWB that they already sell in Asia. Also, lengthening the wheelbase will affect the dynamics of the car, which I don't think they would want to happen.

My bad to keep commenting for Quattroporte, because in some markets, it actually isn't that much pricier than Panamera. If memory serves me correct, Quattroporte was originally (circa 2004-2005) only AUD $10-20k more expensive than M5, but now it is almost 100k away for standard model. the 5er LWB is only available in China, other part of Asia and Australia don't get it and add that China car is LHD while the rest of East, South Asia and Oceania are RHD, that car can't be imported. The 7er, on the other hand, has its own segment for people sit in the back and 7er is actually already cheaper (or on par for some variants) than 6er cabrio.

That back-end shot is remarkably similar to the VW CC. Personally, I think both VW and Mercedes CLS look much more handsome than this one, especially in the front. Of course, this is BMW who brought you the 5GT. The price isn't justifiable - watch what happens to the sales...

You can actually get an A6 for half the price, which IMO looks much more modern.

I'd get a C63 AMG Coupe and put the rest in my pocket.
