Lotus teases Esprit V8 engine [video]

Could produce up to 620 hp

Lotus has released a new video which gives us our first glimpse at the V8 engine that will debut in the 2013 Esprit.

Developed in-house, the engine is expected to displace 4.8 liters and weigh approximately 170 kg (374 lbs). Rumors have indicated it could produce 570 hp (425 kW / 578 PS) and up to 620 hp (462 kW / 629 PS) in R variants.

As Lotus CEO Dany Bahar comments "To take a decision to design your own engine is a big decision, a brave decision and we've taken that decision."

i smell failure when some small company says we are ganna make a 5 liter v8 engine and then they say we will use stuff no one has ever used. Lotus makes good chassis and i think they should stick to that.

Is it NA? 620 hp from a 4.8 is really impressive!

Me gusta... I just made a mess all over my desk watching that video (now, I just hope that I can get into the right pay bracket in order to get one of these while they are still new, I'd rather have this, than pretty much anything else out there or to come, with a few exceptions).

Dead On Arrival? I hope not, good luck. Lotus still has a trick up its sleeve. Undercutting the price of its competitors, otherwise its a tough sell given the limited network distribution. Show them the money, they deserve it.
