French racing team Global Concept Automobile has built this fierce looking silhouette endurance race car resembling the BMW 1M Coupe.
As the name suggests, a silhouette race car loosely resembles a production vehicle to allow spectators to identify with the race car as well as for marketing purposes. However, beneath the skin lies something completely different. The silhouette approach can be found in race series such as NASCAR or DTM.
In the case of this GC10-V8, the BMW 1M Coupe has composite body panels which include huge fender flares. Other than the front and rear faces as distinguished by the bumper fascias, kidney grilles, headlamps and tailamps, the GC10-V8 utilizes nothing from the original car. Structurally, the GC10-V8 has a tubular space frame chassis according to FIA standards.
Under the hood, the same silhouette mentality applies as the 1M Coupe's twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder has been ditched in favor of a 6.2-liter Chevy V8 outputting 550 PS (542 bhp / 405 kW). Suspension consists of 3-way Ohlins adjustable shocks and 18-inch wheels.
Next up for the French manufacturer/race team is the 2012 Dunlop 24-Hour of Dubai in January.
