Bentley teases their turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 [video]

Coming in 2012

Bentley has released the first teaser video of their upcoming turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine.

While there isn't much to see, the clip reveals a "stirring and thunderous" exhaust note which is a "prelude to a potent new Bentley driving experience that begins in 2012."

As we have previously reported, the engine was jointly-developed with Audi and has been tuned to "deliver all the exhilarating power and torque synonymous with the marque." Specifications remain a mystery, but the twin-turbo V8 produces 520 PS (382 kW / 513 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque in the S8.

Sounds great. My only concern is will it change the wafting nature of the old engine?

How many people are buying Bs to make this brand profitable, beats me. Is there a lesson here for dying brands?

In 2008, Bentley sold more than 10000 units. The sales volume is more than Ferrari. And don't forget most of the R&D cost shares with the whole VAG. Lots of the components in Conti series are just the same as other VAG product. The running cost is not so high as you expected.

It does sound nice, if a little doctored. It seems the trend with Audi and parent is heading towards smaller, less powerful, forced induction machinery to reduce weight, especially at the front end, hence their move to the V6 for the S4/S5 and the V8 for the S8 (previously V10). Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the BHP output doesn't change when they port the S8 engine into the Bentley. It would be nice if it weighed less than a BMW 760Li.
