Concept features an 800cc turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a new CVT transmission

Suzuki has unveiled the new Regina Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show which could represent a new, global compact car for the Japanese brand.

The Regina Concept comes with an 800cc turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a new CVT transmission. The car features regenerative braking and a stop/start system that, along with a curb weight of just 730 kg (1606 lbs), allows it to achieve a fuel-economy rating of 3.76 liters/100 km (75 mpg imperial).

The concept measures 3,500 mm long and 1,600 mm wide and features a new manufacturing process that reduces the number of parts needed and improves rigidity. The interior also features a sloped dashboard to allow more cabin space.

This is one concept that may make production someday as a new minicar in the Suzuki lineup.

Love the front, very cute, nasty ugly rear. I wonder what Citroen has 2 say- if anything, this is a great take on a modern day 2cv...

Actually, more like a Citoren Ami: http://www.retro-speed.co.uk/CMS-Images/m_3990001_2011Citroen%20Ami%206%20of%20Chabas.JPG But the front end reminds me of the rear-engined Renault 8: http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Renault-8-France-1963.jpg

Yeah, good spot on that, but I would rather go for the Ami8 than the 6- what with the notched back. 2CV is still the 1st thing in my mind when I look at this 1.

Trouble is, Regina is a brand of toilet paper you can buy in the UK. It also sounds like 'Vagina'.

It doesn't. The first vowel of the second syllable is not pronounced in the same way. Re-gee-na is Italian for queen.

I like the front. It reminds me of a '72 VW 412.

this could hint at the next generation Suzuki Alto. Most of Suzuki's small cars are boxy and for the Japanese market (kei cars). The only A-Segment global model is the Alto (A-Star, Nissan Pixo, Celerio are some other names) and this could hint at its successor.

Well, I think the rear is the most interesting part of this car.

Didn`t the Germans hat the equivalent of this years ago? The Trabant? Will Suzuki put a 2-stroke in it? Fail.
