Chief Engineer talks up the 2013 Camaro ZL1 Convertible [video]

The ZL1's chief engineer Al Oppenheiser claims the car is not just about horsepower but performance and handling too

Chief Camaro engineer Al Oppenheiser was on hand at the Los Angeles auto show to talk up the newly introduced 2013 Chevrolet ZL1 Convertible in this video.

But Oppenheiser keeps his comments mostly about the ZL1 in general and says the car is not just about horsepower and that the model has been tuned for handling and cornering. He points to the ZL1 Coupe's Nurburgring lap time of 7:41.27 as evidence of the model's abilities in that regard.

The 2013 ZL1 Convertible, like the 2012 ZL1 Coupe, comes with a a supercharged 6.2 liter engine producing 580 hp (432 kW / 588 PS) and 556 lb-ft (754 Nm) of torque. Transmission is either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. On the Coupe, 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) clocks in at 3.9 seconds with the automatic (4.0 with the manual) and top speed is 184 mph (296 km/h), also with the automatic transmission. Top speed is 180 mph (290 km/h) on the manual.

I wouldn't buy one because i don't like the styling of the thing, but i really want them to succeed. Reason? If they succeed, they will make others and with some luck, a good thing will come out (eventually?).

it still under GM ,, so this is the fact ,, the fog light is still the same from pontic GTO ,, the rims is the same of the old one ,, the steering-wheel stolen from SAAB ,, Engine from Corvtte ,, so still GM is nothing more than a worst car manifactor

Jesus, all the damnn fanbois on this website do is rip on GM for everything. It's getting old. Do me a favor; until you've actually driven the car in the first place, quit being an annoying tool and face the truth: GM, and the entire Detroit auto industry are back on their feet, and better than ever before. The days of Aveos and Azteks are over. And it's "manufacterer," not manifactor.

well said marshall. This 'hate' towards the American manufacturers and especially GM is ridiculous. I happen to drive cars from different brands and the American ones have made vast improvements since 20 years ago. GM is bringing out some very desirable cars so lets give them space to improve. Oh and have you driven the last AVEO? It might not be on par with Golf or Astra but it is a damn nice little car.

first don't dream that i will drive any of this "Craps" that GM manufacture ,, in the early 80's they was use "craps" on japanese cars and GM was on top i agreed ,, i don't have hate for GM and if i had ,, it becouse they distroyed a great brands as Cadilac ,, Pontiac ,, ect and this is a fact now Luxis on top "japanese car" ,, by the way ,, sorry for the spilling ,,i'm not in tofel exam
