Fifth Gear tests the Audi RS5 & Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe [video]
Stuttgart vs Ingolstadt
The Audi RS5 and Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe are pretty impressive, but there's an obvious question - which one is faster?
To answer that, Tiff Needell took the coupes to Cadwell Park and tested them back to back. While we won't ruin the ending, both vehicles are pretty evenly matched on paper as the RS5 has 450 PS (331 kW / 444 hp) and the C63 has 457 PS (336 kW / 451 hp). Does the added weight of all-wheel drive hamper the RS5? You'll have to watch to find out.

C coupe came too late into production. Did anyone noticed all Mercs coupes look awkwardly bowy from the middle to the rear it just seems they get that part right. RS is a beauty from any angle.

The RS5 is AWD so it got the advantage in the wet corners but if the track was full dry the C3 would be quicker. It's also more fun and sounds better

Bark worse than its bite...? I honestly have to think of which AMG model has ever had a reputation for handling well.

At the top of the list is the SLS AMG, The AMG black series models, the SL AMG, the SLK AMG...The newer AMGs are much better at handling than the old AMGs which were know for more straight line performance. Several car magazines gave praise to the C coupe for its handling and steering.

really, the current AMGs are better than the last AMGs? wow, hey you know what. the current bmw Ms are also better than their last, and also audi's S and RSs are better than their last ones. hey, i am not an BMW or an Audi fan. but, im telling you, any day an M will beat ur amg on a track... and even some of the audis. mercs are nice, they are graet GTs and great drift machines. and of course, luxorious. and as vova said, the C-coupe came so late in this class, if i was merc i would be ashamed. the A5 is already at its first facelift and bmw is already launching a new 3/M3 series.

I guess the M3 is too dated for this head to head. Either way, am I the only one that thinks big V8s in small coupes are out of place? I would much rather see a straight-6 like what was in the E46, albeit with more power. The smaller engine reduces front-end weight, so the driver feels more centered with the weight of the car.

This doesent mean it's faster. He could make some small mistake, and to be late 1 sec.
I also think that new M3 will be again the best choise.
Audi is sertainly the safest, and has a better gearbox than MB.

I wonder what the result would have been with the performance package on the C. MB claims it has 481 bhp but when put on the dyno conclusive results have proved to be around 505. This has been seen on several PP cars.

Okay, so what you're saying is M-B will really shine when they add 40-60 more bhp than the Audi?

It's funny how all the "Pro" mercedes comments on the youtube site are being marked as spam.

Sure AMG's may lag behind on the handling department compared to the M's...but do you really take your sedans out to the track?
How many people really try to clip the apex around the corner when they drive these things out to dinner?
In the real world AMG's are much better suited for 90% of the consumers of these cars. Fat torque so you don't have to rev the engine for going around the city streets (the soundtrack even at low revs is a bonus)and comfy yet secure handling for highway cruising...until it rains cats & dogs or snows that is.

AMG all the way. Just watch this video and hear the sound of the V8

Same as the 1M vs the RS3, numbers only tell part of the story (although the 1M still came out tops on the track). I'd far sacrifice the slightest performance hit for a car with RWD.
