Skoda plans crossover/SUV assault

 Skoda plans crossover/SUV assault
2011 Volkswagen Tiguan design sketch with modified Skoda emblem 31.10.2011

Czech automaker, and member of VW Group, make aggressive push into new segments with two new crossovers and two SUVs

Given that crossover and SUV popularity continues, it's no surprise that Skoda wants to get into the game.

As part of VW Group, and its plan to expand sales to 10 million units a year by 2018, Skoda will be doing its part by adding two new crossover models and two new SUVs to its lineup over the next five years to move into new segments and grow the brand.

According to the report in Car magazine, the two new crossovers will replace the Roomster. The first one coming in 2014 and will be close in size and shape to the VW Touran. A larger people-mover similar to the VW Sharan will come in 2016.

On the SUV side, the Yeti also gets replaced by two new models, a Tiguan-like SUV due in 2015 and a larger seven-seater SUV arriving on the scene in 2016.

WCF, a while ago U had a problem with spammers, now I C trolls (not very skilled ones, mind you) are popping up on ur site. I appreciate you banning them, but an IP block would work best, as they seem too thick to catch a hint and simply re- signup. The lack of self and peer respect that these trolls (even the newb ones) can drive those clients who realize how the world works and either choose to use premium accounts, or click on ur ads. I personally will no longer be clicking on ads until this issue is resolved. After all, there are countless other motoring info sources out there that do not maintain good standards, that one could turn to. FYI, one of your biggest advantages over other such blogs and forums is exctly the fact that one does not have to sift through spam and trolls to get to quality content. Thanks for looking into this, on behalf of your entire civilized audience :)

Skoda models use last generation VW technology and looks(with minor tweaks). This is actually very smart for VW group as it continues the old model production with a new shell and some minor branding modifications. Cost effective reusability of vehicle parts, mass production of same "....".

The sketch seems to be missing certain styling cues that Skoda will likely change 1st.

When the photo caption says ¨2011 Volkswagen Tiguan design sketch with modified Skoda emblem¨ that´s exactly what you get. Cars never look like design sketches anyways. It´s a oedipal thing, car designers would break down if they realize that 99% of cars aren´t sold with ultra-low profile tires, etc.

Why buy the VW Tiguan if this is a badge engineered Skoda thats cheaper ? If you can get the same product at a lower price why not?
