2012 Ferrari California to be lighter, more powerful - report
Ferrari 7-year service 458, California, FF

Finally worthy of the prancing horse?

The California isn't the most exciting vehicle in Ferrari's stable, but that could soon be changing as a number of updates are planned for 2012.

According to CAR, the model will have an optimized ECU and a new exhaust system. Thanks to these tweaks, the 4.3-liter V8 engine will reportedly produce 483 hp (360 kW / 490 PS) and 505 Nm (373 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 30 hp (22 kW / 30 PS) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

Besides being more powerful, the California is expected to drop approximately 30 kg (66 lbs) for improved performance.

The exterior styling will remain virtually untouched, but the cabin will likely feature an updated infotainment system. There's also word of a new handling package with improved magnetorheological dampers that respond in just five milliseconds.

That could only be a good thing, as long as it remains as pleasant to drive.

I do wonder myself but i think its like some of the other models that have their own engine. Im still confused why they have this model when the 430 458 Spyder models are a good car

 M! M!
i think they should keep it the way it is now in different lines. if you want the 458 motor you have the 458 spyder in mid engine.

Well, the problem I have with this car is its styling but I'm obviously not their target customer

I thought it was interesting how the exterior styjlist of Pininfarina took a cue from the Transformer1 movie for the projector headlamps of the California when it was 1st revealed. Humorously few months later Nissan 370Z was revealed with the boomerang headlights. I am not saying its bad just making an observation of the design path different automakers are taking. Although the entire package is overall sexy as most Ferraris, Pininfarina will have to do better with the rear treatment to challenge Ian Callum's Jag C-X16. I also got to say the red pigment paint used in the Ferraris make them instantly sexy cars by proxy.
