Mazda6 next-generation previewed as Takeri concept
Mazda Takeri Concept 25.10.2011

Takeri Concept is meant to showcase Mazda's new design language as well as where the Japanese automaker is headed in the mid-sized segment

Mazda has unveiled the Takeri Concept ahead of its debut at the 2011 Tokyo motor show in December.

The Takeri Concept is a mid-sized sedan meant to showcase Mazda's new design language (KODO) and where Mazda is headed with the next-generation Mazda6.

The KODO, 'soul of motion', design paradigm is intended to create a more emotional impact in vehicle styling which ties into Mazda's SKYACTIV technologies that are also featured here.

Those will include a new regenerative braking system previewed on the Takeri as well as a 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine with 175 PS (173 bhp / 129 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque.

The third-generation Mazda6 will hit the market in spring 2013.

Mazda TAKERI to premiere at 2011 Tokyo Motor Show

Hiroshima, Japan, 25 October 2011. Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the global premiere of the Mazda TAKERI concept car, a next-generation midsized sedan, at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. Also on stage making its Japan debut will be the new CX-5 crossover SUV - equipped with the full array of Mazda's breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY* - along with new technologies and production models.

Mazda's theme for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show is "Environmental Technology, Pushing the Boundaries of the Emotion of Motion. As long as there are people who love to drive, Mazda will continue to evolve the emotion of motion in harmony with environmental and safety performance."

The TAKERI concept exploits Mazda's new design language, KODO - Soul of Motion, to bring a new level of strength and allure to sedan styling. Under this appealing exterior is benchmark SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY like Mazda's first regenerative braking system that converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration, stores it in capacitors and then uses it to power the vehicle's electric equipment, thereby reducing load on the engine and saving fuel. This - combined with the new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, Mazda i-stop, new lightweight, aerodynamic and chassis technologies - enable the Mazda TAKERI to achieve excellent fuel economy with vigorous performance and a comfortable ride.

That interior looks beautiful. If only it had more horsepower.

The New Mazda 6 will come out of Japan, NO locally made 6 from the Ford/Mazda Flat Rock plant.... sigh of relief... This Quote sums it up the best about Mazda from I think Motor Trend REVIEWER ... There are only two volume manufacturers in the world that go out of their way to make sportiness into every product they make.........One is Porsche, and the other is Mazda.

This looks promising. Looks like Honda and Toyota has got a lot to worry about now, as Mazda is now right on their tail on comfort and luxury without sacrifising the fun factor !!

You are right. I love Mazda design and during the last decade they improved dramatically on riding and handling as well. Why is it then I cannot get myself to buy one? I don't know.

The ONLY way this looks like a BMW is the top of the trunk lid. Otherwise, there's absolutely NO resemblance. Mazda somehow manages to keep their cars looking unique, and I hope this one makes it to production as is. My only complaint I would have would be the centre dash should be turned towards the driver a bit.

"My only complaint I would have would be the centre dash should be turned towards the driver a bit." I totally disagree. Keep it straight across.

Nice indeed. I hope this concept makes it to production like the CX-5. Also, I hope that Mazda doesn't pull that crap like with the last Mazda6 and make two different version for the U.S. and Euro market. And if Honda, Hyundai can get 200hp with good gas mileage I hope Mazda does the same.

This concept sure looks good, but I think I read here some time ago that Mazda is axing the 6 due to poor sales.......?

This is magnificent! just drop a regular gasoline engine in there (preferably a V6), make it left-hand drive, and keep the production version very similar and the Mazda6 will be a sure hit!
