Audi TT-RS Plus in the works - report
2010 Audi TT RS

Lighter and more powerful

We've already heard rumors of an Audi TT-RS Plus, but new details are starting to emerge about the mysterious model.

According to Automobile France, the car will debut sometime next year with an upgraded 2.5-liter engine that develops 380 PS (283 kW / 385 hp). Additionally, the rear seats will be removed as part of a weight saving measure that will make the car 60 kg (132 kg) lighter than the standard model.

Besides the reduced weight and added performance, we can expect unique alloy wheels and a fixed rear wing.

Sounds sweet, but the TT-RS already has a fixed rear wing...

Should have ditched the rear seats in the base RS version. Audi is certainly beating that I5 to a pulp, hope to see a 300+kw version in a road car.

Agreed, the rear seats are useless. They were better off just making it a luggage bench.

I remember hearing somewhere that because it has four seats, it is treated at a lower rate by insurance companies, as opposed to a strict 2-seater.

But a luggage bench would probably make more sense. I've sat in the back of one of these for 10 minutes and felt like a circus perfomer.

Oh, then that makes sense. I test drove the regular TT a couple of years ago in Miami (Audi was running a promotion at Bal Harbor, rotating through the S8, R8, S6, RS4 and current TT, though I was only fortunate to roll through when they had the S6 and the TT). I tried to get in the back, but I couldn't even fit. Clever that they do that to reduce the insurance price.

Really amazing that they are able to squeeze 380BHP out of that 2.5 I5, managing 152bhp/liter. Few engines are able to manage more than that. It better come with a manual.

People are already getting over 400 with remaps.

Audi had test mule's running ~600hp on the stock internals, to test robustness. And in about a month or two the first 600hp+ privately owned car should be ready.

I got the TT-S, so the 2.0 L engine and @ the moment he deliver 340Hp for 450Nm of torque ... so should be easy to reach 380 with the 2.5 ...

Yeah but it's one thing to re-map the engine yourself, because of potential side effects. It's something else when Audi ups the ante. @Meilen: doesn't the TT-S only put down 265hp with the 2.0L? Or did you tune it yourself? 340bhp is the current euro-spec TT-RS output.

I changed the exhaust (complete line, from the engine to the end) and re-mapped the ECU. They got even bigger Kit but was too much ;)

I'm looking to do a similar thing to my A4, currently running the same 2.0L, only it's not in S-Spec. Right now it's stock at 208bhp, but with a clutch there's no electronics to interfere with throttle response, so it deceptively quick. But I know there is more power to be had from it. What company did you use?

It's not very impressive as its a turbo engine. Rember Formula one cars used to run with 1,5L turbo engines, pushing over 1500 horsepower(i.e. 1000bhp/liter), over 30 years ago..

Cool news (if reliable), It would have been smart to propose ceramic/carbon brakes as an option (like all other RS). At least for the front, this would be an easy way to gain quite a lot of weight specially on the front axle and non suspended mass.

A harder-core TTRS? Why not? I have gotten that feeling when the recent race-prepped versions of the pint-sized sports car were revealed.
