Ron Dennis addresses McLaren MP4-12C quality issues
McLaren MP4-12C Letter - 21.10.2011 / teamspeed.com

Owners will get a free coffee table book

In a letter sent to MP4-12C owners, McLaren Chairman Ron Dennis addressed the quality issues that have plagued their latest sports car.

Noting problems with the infotainment system and warning lights, Dennis described the issues as "early software bugs" which can be fixed at the dealership. He went on to say the company wants to deliver a class-leading ownership experience, so customers will receive a free copy of McLaren: The Wins.

New McLaren & Fisker dealerships are just about finished being constructed right around the block from where I work!!! It's like a dream come true. As a fan ...as a concerned consumer ...they are going to LOVE me as much as I love McLaren. Can't wait.

Hey guys thanks for dishing out 300k and taking a risk with a technically speaking "new" company and getting nothing but headaches, but don't worry we will give you this 30$ book to read while at the dealership fixing what we overlooked...Makes you kind of think, people could not have had this car in their hands for more than 3 months, all these problems have sprouted like mushrooms. How much testing did McLaren really do? Should they not have taken 10 of these cars to be driven 24/7 for 1 month and see what problems there could be? I know computer simulations are the way to go, but everyone knows computers are the paper of pre 1980s, and all engineers/scientists know that reality is different than what you originally put down on paper.

How much testing can you do (profitably) on a relatively low-volume production car and still sell it for 300k?

Hahaha!! ?170000 and all that hype and the best part about it is a book! It better be something like that book Ferrari sold for more than the price of a Ferrari.. I'm sorry, it's a good car no matter what anyone says, but all I know is that if I was going to buy a car in this price range it would Definitely be the 458. FERRARI For The Win!

The harder it is to remember the name of a product, the bigger the intent to discourage you from calling in for support, general observation. I find it strange that a car named MP4 has problems playing media on its center console.

@ DTM Well at least the quality issues weren't so bad that they would cause the car to spontaneously combust.

the people that buy this car have had or have a few Ferraris and Lambos. all exotics have growing pains, be that Ferrari catching fire or Mclaren. you want a reliable car? buy a camry.

Well from what I have read majority of 12C owners are very happy with their cars and these software issues are very minor pains in the butt, and the first round of updates is going on as this is being written. I would have a 12C over a 458 any day which after 3 years in production is still having gearbox failures, now that is something to be concerned about!! For those of you that would rather have a Ferrari just read "How Ferrari Spins" by Chris Harris and see what they are all about!!
