McLaren F1 successor comes into focus - rumors
McLaren Automotive celebrates 20th anniversary of the legendary McLaren F1, 27.05.2010

0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds?

According to a recent report, McLaren has started testing the highly-anticipated F1 successor.

Citing anonymous sources, AutoCar says the model will be launched in 2014 with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis which is similar to the one used on the MP4-12C. There's also word of an aluminum pushrod suspension with adaptive dampers and a five-stage traction control system. Other rumored specs, which are no stretch of the imagination, include carbon ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics and a defeatable anti-lock braking system.

Motivation will reportedly come from a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 799 hp (596 kW / 810 PS) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. It is expected to be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. If everything pans out, the car could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 0-100 mph in 5.5 second and 0-200 mph in 20.0 seconds.

Styling remains a mystery, but one source described the car as a "bigger, angrier and more functional looking" version of the MP4-12C. Inside, the cabin is expected to be minimalistic but equipped with a data logger and video camera to record track day antics.

Production could be limited to 500 units and pricing might approach £1 (€1.14 / $1.56) million.

highly anticipated. but their own F1 was so good for so many years, it's hard to beat its own record.

I don't believe that they gonna make something better than f-1 was. The f-1 was something extraordinary, but this seems to be very usual. I'm afraid, that succesor will be just another one limited production supercar in the market.

It doesn't need a successor, the F1 has succeeded for the past 20 years and still is today.

Unless the engine is normally aspirated, I will never consider it to be the successor of the F1.

I hope it'll have a V10 or V12 engine.

Those specs aren't that great to be a F1 successor. Let's not downgrade F1 image. BTW who makes the engine? BMW?

Speculative specifications for a car that is a long way from being on the road are nothing to go off. The engine will be bespoke McLaren.

Just finish the cockpit up to cutting edge specs, and redesign the suspension, gearbox and engine. Its looks are timeless so yea, just finish what you started McLaren.
