Inspired by the HX1 concept

According to a recent report, the Peugeot HX1 concept is going into production as the 608.

Set to be launched in 2014, the model will reportedly be a shooting brake which is slightly larger than the Mercedes R-Class.

Engine options are a source of speculation, but a variety of diesels are expected with outputs ranging from 163-275 PS (119-202 kW / 161-271 hp). For eco-minded shoppers, there will reportedly be a hybrid variant which has a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp) diesel engine and a 95 PS (70 kW / 95 hp) electric motor.

If everything pans out, the stately wagon should be priced from approximately €55,000 ($75,710 / £47,990).

One of the things I miss the most after moving back to Canada from the UK, is the selection of cars available in the European market. I would love to have Peugoet and Renault come to Canada, they have put out a few impressive models over the last few years and the diesel hybrid is pretty damn impressive (have you seen the mileage that thing gets, soon you will be filling your car up when getting an oil change).

Now who in the right minds would make a Hatch as their Flagship car??? Flagships are meant to be Sedans...thats wahy they call it "their Flagship Sedan" not "their Flagship Hatch". Oh...wait a minute these are the Europeans we are talking about here...where they actually worship those ultra thin models with virtually no flesh on them. Weird people....

Peugeot doesn't make big cars well. Infact they're latest designs are not something I like. If they really want to make big cars maybe they should just make a joint-venture with another company and "badge Engineer" a flagship.

Yes, but consider how hard it must be to "badge engineer" a flagship. Badge engineering up-market is harder than badge engineering down-market.

Wait a sec, No French manufacturer has ever pulled off a successful large executive car. I say forget the luxury cars Peugeot, and concentrate the money into development of small, fun to drive hatchbacks, comfortable mid level saloons and sports cars. The RCZ and 508 are great starting points. However, this concept is rather good looking, so if the production car looks at least 95% as good, then more power to ya. Let's see what 2014 brings.

Peugeot make one of the most attractive concept cars. However, none of their concept make it to production!!
