Toyota Auris TRD Supercharged live in South Africa 11.10.2011

Japan's latest hot hatch

Toyota has unveiled the Auris TRD at the Johannesburg International Motor Show in South Africa.

Designed to replace the SportX, the TRD has a sport-tuned suspension and an aerodynamic body kit with a front spoiler, extended side skirts and a faux diffuser.

Power comes from a supercharged 1.6-liter engine that develops 181 PS (133 kW / 178 hp) and 202 Nm (149 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 49 PS (36 kW / 48 hp) and 42 Nm (31 lb-ft).

There's no word on pricing, but the model will be launched in November.

In the Auris this sounds silly. BUT put this supercharged engine in the new Yaris along with some TRD interior and exterior styling and we'd have something worth talking about, and worth buying.

I wouldn't say that's enough to stop them on its own. Europe has plenty of hot hatches with comfortably more than 180PS, and Toyota engines are pretty clean. I don't know if they use the TRD badge in the EU though, so they'd have to rename it if they did bring it over.

the car does seem to be genuin i had the privalage to sit in it at the show and that engine down piping and the trd stamps make it look good but they should have made more powerfull then the runx now thats a car worth mentioning.

I had the privilege or riding in this car yesterday, the same one,,, Damn,, Im out of words,,, Also thinking of trading in mine when this thing comes out in November,,, Dam its a machine and a half, and this is a 1.6, imagine thier 2L,,, Mmhhh
