Inching closer to production

We've seen the Golf VII on numerous occasions in the United States, but here are some new photos of the model undergoing testing in Europe.

Caught at night, the heavily camouflaged prototype has a familiar shape but previous reports have indicated the car will adopt a sleeker design with a steeper windshield, a wider track and a lower roofline. It's hard to judge from the photos, but the prototype does appear to be longer and lower than the current model.

Technical details are fairly light, but the Golf is expected to ride on the MQB platform and feature a variety of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines. Rumors suggest the GTI could receive an upgraded 2.0-liter TSI engine with 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS).

It's a prototype my dear friend. Before prototypes of the Golf Mk7 hit the roads, test mules were based on the current Golf, albeit with extended wheelarches.
