Twin-turbo boxer engine, bespoke platform?

The rumor mill is back in action as new details emerge about Porsche's upcoming supercar that will slot between the 911 GT2 RS and 918 Spyder.

According to CAR, Porsche has scrapped plans to develop the 2015 model off existing vehicles. Instead, the supercar - reportedly codenamed the 960 - is slated to ride on a bespoke mid-engine Mimo platform (aka MSB-M) which hasn't been green-lighted as of yet. Little is known about the architecture, but it will reportedly be highly adaptable and available in a variety of configurations.

Furthermore, the magazine says power could be provided by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter boxer engine with 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 550 lb-ft (745 Nm) of torque.

Needless to say, we're taking everything with a grain of salt but CEO Matthias Mueller has previously said the company needs a Ferrari rival that is priced between €250,000 and €400,000 ($340,125 and $544,200).

CAR is full of BS, at least they could invent some more exciting rumours. I like the one where Porsche is working on a flat 8 engine for their new supercar, to make it more distinct from the 911.

gt2 rs 620ps, 918 spyder 700ps with electric chargers, so this race spec 960 should be 660ps or even more. Plus it will be light. Watch this thing chase the 599xx.
