Mercedes highlights the 5.5-liter V8 in the SLK 55 AMG [video]
Power and efficiency combined
Mercedes has released a new promotional video for the naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine in the SLK 55 AMG.
Known internally as the M152, the engine is based on the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 (M157) but features a new air intake, bespoke cylinder heads and an optimized crankcase. The mill also has variable valve timing, direct injection, stop/start technology and AMG Cylinder Management which deactivates four-cylinders when they aren't needed.
In terms of performance, the engine develops 422 PS (310 kW / 416 hp) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the SLK to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, hit a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) and average 8.4 l/100km (28 mpg US / 33.6 mpg UK).

28 mpg on a high performance sports car..... i guess we can have it all lol. I bet on the highway it only would need 2 cylinders to keep speed and get 30-33 mpg

As awesome as this car maybe, I think I will wait a few extra months and see what the 2013 AMG SL will bring to the table.
