Road & Track's two-second club - first supercar inductees [video]

0-to-60 mph in less than three seconds

In Europe the 0-to-200 km/h (124 mph) sprint is one of the most important benchmarks when evaluating the true performance of hardcore supercars. However, American magazine Road & Track is placing emphasis on the lower end of the spectrum highlighting vehicles that can do the 0-to-60 mph (98 km/h) sprint in less than three seconds.

Their rationale is that 0-60 mph is obviously more accessible and relatable to most people on a daily basis. Vehicles that can achieve this benchmark in less than three seconds deserve to be ackowledged as being in the Two-Second Club. But that's not to say 0-to-60 is the only benchmark. It is one of many which the magazine uses to paint an overall picture.

So far the first inductees include the Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, but surely other obvious contenders include the Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Aventador, Lexus LFA and the Mercedes SLS to name a few.

Check out the video to see what numbers the they come up with.

None of the contenders you mentioned with the exception of the Aventador(estimated 2.9) are sub 3 sec

MP4 is 3.1sec and R&T has already hit 3.0 flat for the 458. Perhaps on a slightly warmer day they could hit 2.99? Maybe the SLS and LFA are a stretch, but with different tires and ideal conditions, it could be possible...

the Huayra, some Koennigngnseg things, Gumpert Apollo , Ascari A10, RUF CTR-3 , RUF RT12 R, Caparo T1, Ariel Atom, etc. but i doubt the SLS or the LFA can reach that, they are too heavy for RWD cars. as for the F458, that was probably a Ferrari press car , so that doesn't count.

Yes impressive performance by GTR with all that weight. I just wish Nissan make the new Spec-V with 150-200 kg less weight.

0-60mph? Who is interested in a 0.1 sec difference? This is a speed range interesting for a scooter, but not a supersports car ;-)

Nissan should do a bigger difference with upcoming Spec R version, to increase power radically and loose weight even fruther! Because Spec V is too close to the "normal" model!

The Turbos S with PDK does 0-60 in 2.6

the turbo S comes only with PDK. you need cold air and warm tarmac for the best performance, also fuel as low as possible, a very light driver, optimal tires, wind from the back , etc. you won't always get the same results, that's why Porsche are always underrate their acceleration and top speed values.

10 second difference between the GT-R and Veyron 0-160 times. Out fo the three, only the Porsche would be left out of my fantasy garage, especially as it's now the 'old' model. The GT-R probably offers something very close to a real life ownership prospect. The only thing that would stop me from buying a used one are the running costs and the 'slower' Audi R8.
