Volkswagen Jetta coupe is a no-go - report
Capacity constraints blamed
According to a recent report, Volkswagen will not build the New Compact Coupe concept (Jetta Coupe).
Speaking with sources at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Car and Driver has learned capacity constraints, at the company's plant in Mexico, have forced VW to axe production plans.
In related news, the magazine says the Beetle convertible will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show and the Jetta Hybrid will debut at the North American International Auto Show. The latter model will reportedly have a turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery and "big-time fuel-economy numbers."

I'm guessing this also means there will not be an Audi A3 coupe either.

Wow huge mistake VW the jetta coupe looks fantastic. Basically a cheap A5 which is another gorgeous car.

Too bad. The Jetta sedan is so anonymous looking, the coupe could have brought some luster back to the name.

Bad call on VW's part. The current Jetta sedan is so anonymous. This coupe could have brought a halo back to the nameplate.

Here ends my planned full return to VW... Had my eye on this for a while... This move utterly constrains us to wait for the A3 sedan.

How could anybody call this an A5. The new Jetta sucks pretty bad...

Because it looks just like one at the back, not because of anything mechanical.

Man, the interior looked really nice... only if they can adopt the same design theme for current Jettas.

Well, VW has lost one potentially profitable car model. But heck, perhaps the next-gen could spring another surprise!

This coupe would have made a bit of sense in the us but in the eu, it would become redundant at it's launch. As for the saloon, it would make sense in the eu to take over the position of the now sub premium passat. Although history would seem to tell another story. I don't know where vw are going anymore. Nothing they do makes sense anymore!

Good indeed, now they have more time to concentrate on a real sportscar.
