Lexus LFA Roadster axed, Toyota Supra under development - report
LFA Tokyo Edition also rumored
Lexus has promised to offer more emotional models, but it looks like the turbulent economy has put the kibosh on the LFA Roadster.
Citing anonymous sources, CAR says the high-performance convertible has been axed. Despite the cancellation, the coupe will continue and there's word a Tokyo Edition - with an exposed carbon fiber roof - will be introduced later this year.
More interestingly, the magazine is reporting the company is developing two new sports cars besides the FT-86. Information is scarce, but one might be a "sporty" Lexus CT 200h while the other could be a 2014 Toyota Supra revival.

That's disappointing. I was looking forward to a roadster version of this. Removable roof option perhaps? That would be nice.

Toyota Supra must get to the production...RWD, fron inline6 with two turbos and at least 500hp!

I want it to be as beautiful as the last one. Also I would love if they revived the Celica GT4 as a Lancer evo competitor.

Not sure what's so disappointing about axing a car few people could afford and bringing a relatively affordable car to market that the relatively average joe can afford. Good decision Toyota. Now make it look good.

I'll agree with you. And to take it a step further, Toyota should put some more life in their normal cars. I can't stand driving my business Auris. It feels there's no connection from the wheels to the steering. I don't know how people buy these cars, I guess they've never driven something worthwhile.

I suspect the new Supra will be based on the Lexus IS platform but it would be nice if it has near GTR stats... But I doubt it.

Imagine they drop 2 cylinders like BMW did with the M5 V10 for the M3 V8... 3.6L V8 with 442hp with a price tag around $90k. Now that would be something worth buying.

LFA was a outdated dissapointment that had few bike engines under the hood. For people who disagrees, let's see it got beaten by new Lambo, GTR, MClaren ..... And it's more money than 2 of its competitors together.
Supra it was ment be all the time under -$100k. Looking forward.

The GT-R was the first out the blocks and will be the one to beat. Shame you'll probably be able to get a nearly new GT-R and R8 for the same price as a new Supra by the time it's released. Anyway, if we're going to have another recession I'm betting Toyota will postpone the idea anyway.

If they make a new supra it will have nissan 370z specs, not gtr specs. They already made their expensive supercar statment, now they need an affordable sports car to make money. I doubt it will be inline six, it will probably be a tuned version of the 3.5L engine they have in the lexas IS and toyata camry. toyata is not about making cars that enthusiasts want, they are more about making money through the ppl who just want a reliable, boring means of transportation. When toyota stopped making sporty models, it wasnt because ppl werent buying them, it was because they wanted their reliablty rating to shoot up so they could sell more units. thats why there is no more celica and supra.

I have to agree with your statement. The only Toyota, that has come close to making me wet is the Toyota 2000GT when it appeared in that old James Bond movie and it was a white convertible.

Not sure about your specs. ISF has the engine of LS600
and that's a 5.0 l engine. I think we should expect a 2.5 l or 3.0 l from around 300hp with some electric engine making it around 400 - 450 hp combined...
This would be M3 territory and that's where the Supra will be supposed to compete against...
September 20, 2011 11:59 pm
they only reciently started making the IS sporty when they put the 3.5 engine in it to compete with g35 and 3series. the nissan 370z's 0-60 is 4.8 sec, the m3 is in lower 4 sec range. i dont know what they will do but it seems smart to make a $30-40k sports car. if they made a $60-70k sports car in m3 territory its going to have to have lexas lux in it to compete and price would be out of reach for the younger generation.

Supra was pitted against the 300ZX during the 276 horsepower cap in Japan. WIth regards to the US, there never was a GTR so this is all new territory for the possible revival.
They just might throw the FR-S/BRZ (whatever its called now) into that 370Z range and upscale the Supra into a Lexus brand to replace and upgrade the SC430.

did u forget a little car known as the nissan skyline gtr? the gtr spanked any supra. the gtr spanked porsches and ferraris

That the LFA costs so much is Toyota's own fault. Since they are losing money on each car, they should have made it the new Supra to compete against the new GTR and amortize the costs over more volume and use the production techniques on other models. For what the LFA is and costs - not impressive. Priced next to the GTR then this car would have been embraced and become its own icon.
